Over the last three years, Roman Reigns has established himself as the invincible face of the company. The Head of the Table has had the run of a lifetime since the inception of his heel persona. Reigns has been the top champion of the promotion for three consecutive WrestleMania. Several prominent superstars have crumbled under The Tribal Chief in an attempt to dethrone him.
In the recent edition of the SmackDown/Raw Review Show, ex-WWE star Stevie Richards weighed in on the current booking of Roman Reigns. While speaking on the podcast, he claimed that any superstar who feuds with Reigns is potentially sabotaging their own career. Richards is of the opinion that losing to the Tribal Chief halts a superstar’s momentum and kills their career.
Richards went on to compare top babyfaces such as LA Knight and Cody Rhodes with Steve Austin. Furthermore, he stated that the latter wouldn’t have been as popular as he was in the Attitude Era had he lost his WrestleMania 14 bout against Shawn Michaels. Austin ascended to the top after dethroning HBK for the WWE title, said the former Hardcore Champion.
You're getting to the point they all fall short and here's your consolation prize. So, you're less over after that. Like, I wouldn't want an angle with Roman Reigns right now because it would kill my career. [11:21-11:36]Stevie Richards on SmackDown/Raw Review Show
As a result, the 52-year-old believes Knight or Rhodes, who had the crowd behind them, coming up short against Roman Reigns is disingenuous. Nonetheless, Richards’ stance cannot be declared a gospel truth. Top babyfaces such as Jey Uso, Cody Rhodes, or anyone else who faced Roman Reigns this year have reached an unfathomable level of success. It will be safe to say that their careers catapulted after feuding with Reigns.
Vince Russo claims WWE is scapegoating talents to Roman Reigns to build him up for Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40
The Tribal Chief defended his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39. The latter was the fan favorite to dethrone the champion this year. However, The Tribal Chief vanquished The American Nightmare and retained his gold. Since then, the consensus among WWE fans is that Cody Rhodes will go to WrestleMania 40 to finish his story.
Having said that, wrestling veteran Vince Russo recently shared his expert analysis of Roman Reigns’ overall booking in WWE. Speaking on the SmackDown/Raw Review Show, Russo alleged that the system itself is flawed in WWE. The wrestling veteran added that the creatives are sacrificing their talents for the Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes rematch at The Show of Shows.
The system is very flawed because, bro, they're sacrificing…Reigns is going over all these guys to build him up for freaking Cody. And, bro, I am telling you nobody outside of the WWE Universe gives a sh*t about Cody Rhodes. So, you're sacrificing all this talent to get there. [6:48-7:11]Vince Russo on SmackDown/Raw Review Show
Furthermore, he continued to diss the American Nightmare by stating that nobody cares about him outside the WWE Universe. Russo made this bold statement with regard to the recent losses of superstars such as Jey Uso and LA Knight. The two individuals unsuccessfully challenged Reigns for the WWE gold at SummerSlam and Crown Jewel, respectively.
