Vince McMahon‘s return to WWE was a point of controversy for all the fans, officials, and investors alike. The hostile takeover of his own company by Vince has not only received negative comments from the fans but also gotten WWE into deep trouble. Despite all the criticism, Triple H has come out to defend this recent move.

In the fourth quarter’s earnings call, Triple H spoke about his father-in-law’s return to WWE. The Chief Content Officer of WWE said, “For me, and it will allow me to speak for our entire creative team, but we are standing on the shoulders of giants. So, having him back and involved, if even at a board level, comes with his incredible insight. He is a tremendous asset to this company.”

Triple H has praised Vince McMahon in past interviews as well while dodging any questions regarding the legal troubles. After the owner of WWE returned as a member of the Board and eventually as the Chairman, the company faced four lawsuits from its investors. While most of them question Vince McMahon’s “forced” return to power, some make direct references to the sexual harassment and “hush money'” charges against him.

When Vince returned as a member of the board in early January, the wrestling world was shaken. However, that was only the beginning. Since then, multiple board members have left, Stephanie resigned as co-CEO and chairwoman, and Vince McMahon was reinstated as Chairman of WWE. This past month has surely been a turbulent ride for everyone.

WWE CEO Nick Khan also recently spoke on the earnings call and talked about Vince’s role in the company. When asked whether Vince would step down after the sale of WWE, Khan said, “Yes, without question. He’s declared it to the board. He’s declared to us in management. It’s all about shareholder value. Obviously, he is a shareholder. So It’s not about what role he will have. It’s about maximizing that value opportunity.”

This will surely bring some relief to the fans and the investors who feared that Vince McMahon might assume his full power soon. As he is the majority shareholder, Vince’s involvement in the potential sale of WWE becomes very crucial. This was the point of leverage for McMahon, which he used as a coy for his return. However, if he leaves WWE once again after the sale, as Khan has assured, it will all seem too good to be true.
