The inaugural World Heavyweight Champion, Seth “Freakin” Rollins, had a blast this year. Battling in various cities around the world with stipulations and numerous superstars was The Visionary. A post by WrestleOps on X recalls Rollins having wrestled matches on every PLE in 2023. While the comments on this post take a dig at Roman Reigns for not being a true champion and having limited appearances with even lesser title defenses.
Starting the year with his Royal Rumble match entrance at 15th position, he even made it to the final four. In February, he entered the Elimination Chamber and was vying for the United States Championship with five others. Both of his previous PLE matches were costed to him by Logan Paul, whom he defeated at WrestleMania 39. After Mania, he indulged in a short-lived feud with Omos, starting on Raw, which culminated at Backlash in Puerto Rico.
After four decent months in 2023, Rollins was crowned with the World Heavyweight Championship against AJ Styles at the Night of Champions in Jeddah. This began the workhorse era of Rollins, who then defended his championship whenever possible. His first-ever title defense on a PLE then came against Finn Balor at Money in the Bank in London. That led to his longing rivalry with The Judgment Day, and a rematch for the same prize at SummerSlam.
Two months of break from the heel faction brought him in front of The King of Strong Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura. Both at Payback and Fastlane, Rollins defended his title against Nakamura in a fearsome manner. Circling back slightly to The Judgment Day’s storyline, Seth faced Drew McIntyre at Crown Jewel in Riyadh. While the last PLE, Survivor Series: WarGames saw him in the eponymous match to put an end to The Judgment Day.
WWE Universe lambasts Roman Reigns while being amazed by Seth Rollins in 2023
Seth Rollins was unleashed in 2023 with an impressive WWE match record. Rollins went all over the place this year and defended his World Heavyweight Championship through thick and thin. A post on X recollected his workhorse nature and stated every match he has had on every PLE.
The comments were free enough to not only laud The Visionary but also criticize the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. The Tribal Chief has had only five title defenses on PLE and none on weekly shows. On the darker side, Roman was absent for months and was a ‘false’ champion per se.
Seth looks forward to having a magnum opus-esque 2024, as he is set to defend his championship against Drew McIntyre. His rivalry will also be built around CM Punk leading into WrestleMania 40. There are high chances of him losing the title at Mania in a contest to prove The Best in the World.
