The biggest news in pro wrestling last year continued to develop into the new year as well. Vince McMahon shocked the wrestling world as he successfully made his way back to WWE. Recently, the former WWE CEO and Chairman was reinstated to the WWE Board of Directors. Now, according to recent rumors, Vince originally desired a more prominent role in the company.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Vince was seeking to assume creative control of WWE a week ago. The former CEO wanted to manage the business on daily basis. Meltzer said, “I think everybody kind of…is looking at this going like that really what’s going to happen and being very skeptical of that in the long run….because Vince wanted it back to run the thing….I mean that’s what he wanted…that’s what he was looking for, a week ago….so he didn’t get that.”

The whole professional wrestling community was astounded by Vince McMahon’s retirement in July 2022. However, McMahon returned to WWE at the start of the new year in an attempt to negotiate a TV rights deal for the promotion and perhaps even sell it to even greater companies. Currently, WWE’s creative process is not under Vince McMahon’s control. All of that, though, is subject to change in the upcoming weeks. McMahon’s eventual return might have significant ramifications for WWE television programming.

In July 2022, the Wall Street Journal reported about an ongoing investigation into Vince McMahon by WWE’s board of directors. They reported that Vince paid $12 million in “hush money” to four women to cover up possible sexual misconduct allegations. Just two weeks after the report, the billionaire announced his retirement from the company via Twitter. Following the announcement, Stephanie McMahon, his daughter, and Nick Khan were named Co-CEOs, and Paul Levesque (aka Triple H) was named Chief Content Officer of WWE.

In December, some reports started to emerge that Vince McMahon was looking to make a return to his former company. And he started to plot out his plan for the same as the new year arrived. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Vince, as the majority shareholder, refused to agree to any deal that didn’t involve him from the onset.

For his plan to work, McMahon elected himself, George Barrios, and Michelle Wilson to the board, making his way back into the company again. In his press release, Vince said that WWE has an “exceptional management team” in place and he does not want to interfere with their roles, duties, and responsibilities. However, after recent reports, Vince might regain full control over the company soon.
