The sixth annual women’s Royal Rumble match came to a close, and another superstar has etched his name in history. And to everyone’s pleasure, it was Rhea Ripley who pulled the unthinkable by winning the Royal Rumble from the number one spot. It was a big step up for the former Raw women’s champion, who looks to regain the title once again.
The fans saw a performance of sheer will and endurance from Rhea Ripley as she lasted for more than an hour in the match. However, commiserations with Liv Morgan who entered second and lasted just a second less than Ripley. In a rare incident, the two competitors who started the match were also the ones to end it. And with the help of Asuka’s green mist attack on Morgan, the Nightmare was able to eliminate her opponent easily.
During her time in the ring, the Nightmare eliminated multiple competitors from the Rumble. The number one entrant, Rhea Ripley, had seven eliminations in the Royal Rumble, which was more than any other woman in the match. There is still a shadow of doubt over what will be the WrestleMania match for the Rumble winner. Unlike the men’s, Ripley has two choices for the world title match at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Who will the Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley face at WrestleMania?
Unlike her male cohort, Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley has two choices for her WrestleMania opponent after her Royal Rumble victory. The Judgment Day member can either challenge for the Raw or the SmackDown women’s championship at the Showcase of the Immortals. As per the recent reports though, Rhea Ripley might look to regain the Raw title once again.
According to some reports, there are ideas pitched backstage for a possible Rhea Ripley vs Becky Lynch match at WrestleMania. Therefore, Becky Lynch defeating Bianca Belair for the Raw women’s title in the following months, is currently on the table. This would lead Bianca Belair to the other big match against Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown title. Both these women’s matches have been teased previously on WWE TV giving some weight to these reports.
However, Rhea Ripley wouldn’t be in any rush to make her choice after the Royal Rumble victory. She has earned a well-deserved rest after one hell of a performance in the women’s match. The WrestleMania picture would become more clear after the Elimination Chamber event on February 18th.
