The role of rivalries behind the success of WWE in 2021-2022
Rivalries have played a huge role in everyone’s interest in the WWE. While 2021 had some memorable rivalries, 2022 might have outlasted them all. Last year’s WWE content was highlighted by rivalries like the Seth Rollins and Edge saga, Roman Reigns, and John Cena month along with Becky Lynch’s return enmity with Bianca Belair. Fans were convinced by how the company presented the rivalries which resulted in most of them becoming a chartbuster.
However, 2022 had a very different aura in itself. The year began with a rivalry between Kevin Owens and Stone Cold Steve Austin. If this was not enough, things were further spiced up by the return of Cody Rhodes, who indulged in a feud with Seth Rollins. To top all the action, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar indulged in never-ending storyline fans won’t forget. Furthermore, many dreams came true when the first stop on the Road to WrestleMania featured a mega-match between Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar. The rivalry between them continued at Crown Jewel 2022 and will also be seen in 2023.
The execution of many dream rivalries might have resulted in the company’s success in 2022. Fans were given everything they wanted throughout the year, and the increase in the company’s revenue proved it. With 2023 on the horizon, WWE has already started planning for its programming next year. Royal Rumble 2023 breaking records on the ticket counter itself proves how fans enjoyed 2022.
In addition, seeds have started being sown for WrestleMania 39. The Hollywood edition of WrestleMania could be another game-changer and the rumored return of Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson will be like icing on the cake. With big names like John Cena, Logan Paul, and Stone Cold Steve Austin rumored to be present, 2023 is expected to be a majestic year for the WWE. If the company manages to achieve the expected success in 2023, CCO Triple H might be credited for most of it.
