WWE Tribute to the Troops: Universal Champion Roman Reigns delivers another dominant performance

Universal Champion

Roman Reigns, the biggest WWE Superstar today, main-evented another special event for the company. WWE recently aired their Tribute to the Troops special episode, which focusses on paying a tribute and entertaining the United States Armed Forces members. The special episode featured only 3 matches.

The main event saw the Universal Champion Roman Reigns in action against the Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. While Nakamura was accompanied by Rick Boogs, to the ringside, Special Counsel Paul Heyman stood by his Tribal Chief. As usual, Boogs continued playing his guitar by the ringside to hype up Nakamura but he was soon taken down by the Universal Champion with a series of clotheslines.

After a hard-hitting bout, Reigns geared up for the Superman Punch to finish things off, but he was once again distracted by Rick Boogs’ guitar. Finally, the Usos showed up and attacked Boogs at the ringside. Being the babyface, Nakamura ran out and managed to take out Jimmy and Jey.

As he came back in the ring, he was hit with a powerful Superman Punch, followed by a vicious Spear. The Tribal Chief registered a dominant win over the Intercontinental Champion, but once again we saw an interruption from the Smackdown Tag Team Champions. They have been coming out in every single on of Reigns’ matches and it has now become a predictable pattern.

A couple of nights prior to the WWE Tribute to the Troops, Universal Champion Roman Reigns faced King Woods in the main event of Smackdown. Woods came close to defeating the Tribal Chief, but once again The Usos ran in and brutally beat up Woods. This led to referee calling for the bell, and Reigns suffering a loss via disqualification.

Interestingly, this was Reigns’ first loss in 11 months! The Tribal Chief had last lost a match in WWE against Kevin Owens and Otis – again via disqualification. Prior to that, his last single pinfall loss came at TLC 2019, when he was pinned by Baron Corbin.
