Baker Mayfield’s old beef with Wyndham Clark resurfaced recently. The Golfer accused the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback of having an affair with his ex-girlfriend.

Back in 2016, Clark tweeted that he “hate[s] Baker Mayfield.” Most didn’t see anything wrong with the post or that it carried any deeper meaning. Clark went to Oklahoma State, and Baker starred for the rivals Sooners. So, the post could easily be chalked up to banter.

That’s not the case, and Clark recently shed light on the real reason behind his hate toward Mayfield on a recent segment of Pardon My Take.

I’m trying to decide if I should tell the story. Yeah, all right, screw it. I don’t care, people already hate me… My girlfriend at that time cheated on me with Baker Mayfield.

That’s a fair tweet.

Does Wyndham Clark still hate Baker Mayfield?

A decade has passed since the tweet went live. Funny enough, Twitter is now called X.

In 2016, Mayfield completed 13 from 19 passing attempts for 288 yards and threw 3 passing touchdowns against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. In fact, the Heisman Trophy winner holds a perfect 3-0 record against the Cowboys.

Clark resenting Mayfield makes sense because he graduated from Oklahoma State. To rub salt on his wounds, Baker allegedly went out with his girlfriend at that time.

However, water is under the bridge. Clark doesn’t hate the Pro Bowler anymore; rather, he considers Mayfield a “homie.”

I hope this is actually a bro moment to be like, ‘oh bro, my bad, I didn’t know. She never told me,’ and I’m like, ‘it’s all good. We’re homies. Let’s play golf.’ That’s where I hope this comes from.

Now the only thing fans want is to hear from Mayfield. The 31-year-old is a married man. He married Emily Wilkinson in July 2019. In April 2024, the pair welcomed their first child, a daughter, Kova Jade Mayfield. Two years later, in April 2026, Wilkinson gave birth to a boy, Maverick Thorne Mayfield.

Wyndham Clark is dating model Emily Tanner. Clark recently won his second Major at the 2026 US Open.

Buccaneers legend gives his honest take on Baker Mayfield’s contract situation

The Buccaneers found themselves in a bind after Tom Brady retired from football. Replacing the seven-time Super Bowl champion proved a tough ask. Eventually, they signed free agent Mayfield to a prove-it one-year deal in 2023. He posted a 9-8 record, completed 364 passes for 4044 yards and 28 touchdowns. In the wildcard round, Mayfield led the Bucs to a memorable win against defending NFC champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Bucs quickly signed him to a three-year, $100 million extension. After two years, with an 18-16 regular-season and 0-1 postseason record, the Bucs are in a similar position to the 2023 campaign. Mayfield’s contract will end after the 2026-27 season. He wants to get the paperwork completed as early as possible so he can focus on the season.

Buccaneers legend Ronde Barber urged the team to avoid delaying Mayfield’s extension.

Find a way to pay [Baker Mayfield]. Make him happy, whatever that number is. It’s not 60, 65 [million per year], somewhere in the $50 [million] range. It’s a decent amount of [salary] bump. But I just hope it doesn’t distract this team going into this season, because I think this is a big year for a lot of people in this organization.

Barber said (H/T Joe Bucs)

Tampa Bay loves Mayfield, not because he’s a college football legend or turned Cleveland into a playoff team. But they witnessed his warrior spirit last year when he played through a horrible shoulder injury and threw 26 TDs in a dysfunctional offense. Per sources, contract talks are due to start as soon as Tampa players return on July 28.
