The New York Yankees have opted Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez to Triple-A. This development came after the team had a topsy-turvy day and lost 13-7 against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday.

A day before this, the Yankees added a top bat by acquiring Luis Garcia Jr. from the Washington Nationals through a trade. They gave up 4 pitchers to land the 26-year-old slugger. On Monday, they brought in Heliot Ramos from a trade with the San Francisco Giants.

The Yankees then took to the field against the Cardinals. This turned out to be a rollercoaster game as they found themselves 6-0 down. Alec Burleson led the charge with 2 home runs.

The Bronx Bombers then lived up to their nickname. A 2-run homer from struggling Austin Wells and a solo shot from Trent Grisham cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the 5th inning.

In the 7th inning, Ryan McMahon and Jose Caballero hit solo home runs, which made it a 6-5 game. Garcia Jr. then had his moment and smashed a 2-run home run in his MLB debut for the Yankees to put them up 7- 6 in the game.

They then gave up 7 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. A 3-run home run from Nathan Church, a 2-run shot from Jimmy Crooks, and a third home run of the game for Burleson restored their 6-run lead.

Following this defeat, the Yankees made some changes to the team. Dominguez, who went 1-for-4 in this game, and Volpe, who was an unused bat, were sent down to Triple-A.

Reliever Angel Chivilli, who gave up those 6 runs in the 8th inning, was also optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Meanwhile, top prospect George Lombard Jr. has been promoted to the major leagues.

Social media reacts to Yankees sending Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez to minor leagues

The New York Yankees announced some big changes to their team after their crushing 13-7 loss on Monday. Among the 3 players sent down to the minor leagues are Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez, who have not had the most productive of years this season.

In 53 games, Dominguez has just 6 home runs and 14 RBIs. Whereas Volpe has just 1 home run and 19 RBIs in 56 games. Another struggle for them has been their fielding. The latter has made several errors from the shortstop position and has received huge criticism.

So when the Yankees announced this move, fans on social media went wild. Many users on X shared some bold reactions while reacting to this. One user wrote, “You will not be missed” while making their feelings known.

Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

This is not the first time this year that these two stars have suffered this fate. Dominguez was demoted to Triple-A before the start of the season and was not a part of the team’s Opening Day Roster.

Meanwhile, Volpe started the season on the injured list. He underwent surgery on his left shoulder in the offseason last year and started his rehab program in April this year. The Yankees then opted to keep him in the minor league and stuck with Jose Caballero as the shortstop.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman comments about the return of Aaron Judge this season

One key name currently missing from the New York Yankees lineup is Aaron Judge. The reigning American League MVP is still out of action following a rib fracture. As concerns regarding his return grow, GM Brian Cashman commented on this matter.

In mid-July, reports emerged that Judge’s rib had shown a little healing. However, it was nowhere near time for him to resume baseball activities.

It has now been over 2 months since the Yankees captain was diagnosed with a rib fracture. In a recent audio clip shared by SNY, Cashman could be heard commenting on Judge’s condition. While he remained optimistic about his return, he did admit that there are challenges.

It’s always possible that things don’t go the way you want. We currently are still very optimistic that he’s going to return. But there’s challenges with all that. Whenever that time frame is, getting his timing down … I can’t rule out any of it.

In Judge’s absence, the team has struggled offensively. As per a recent report from Kalshi Sports, the Yankees had the lowest batting average of any team since the 34-year-old went on the injured list.

Other big offensive names the team is missing right now are Giancarlo Stanton and Cody Bellinger. Stanton has been out since April following a calf issue, while Bellinger landed on the injured list last week due to a Grade 2 hamstring strain.

With their loss on Monday, the Boston Red Sox are just 2.5 games behind them, the smallest margin between the two teams since April 12. Their fanbase is thus hoping for a quick return of their superstar as the season intensifies.
