Josh Berry, the substitute driver for Chase Elliott, has talked about his super performance at the phoenix raceway. He drove the number 9 Chevrolet Camaro and, despite starting the race in P20, was able to land his car in P10. He had an amazing outing and is doing a great job in the absence of Elliott for Hendrick Motorsports.

Josh Berry is pretty pleased with how everything panned out for him during the race. While talking about it what he needed during the crunch moments at the closing stages of the race, he added, “I don’t know, some experience probably, I mean this group did a great job, we had a great week preparing with this next-gen car.”

“We thought all day you know each run was a little bit different like I’m trying to learn how the car works drives. What adjustments do I need to make to be better? I think we kinda went back and forth on some adjustments and it got a lot better right at the end. Obviously, the restarts helped us right at the end. The restarts we had a couple of good ones, and to finish in the top 10 is pretty amazing.” He added.

Looking at the comments of the 32-year-old, it seems that he could not have asked for a better outing at the Phoenix Raceway, especially considering the adjustments he had to make with the Chevrolet Camaro. Josh Berry managed to stay in the top 20 for the major part of the race.

While Berry is on cloud 9 with his stupendous outing, he has taken the time to give a special mention to the crew that has done their best in order to make the Camaro as per his liking. While talking about it, he added, “Yeah it was so nice to work with this group and get to know the a bit better. Sitting in the simulator, being around this group, and knowing that I’m going to run all the ovals.”

He further said, “To know that I’m not racing for my life out here, is good. We all want Chase to get back, this is his car.” While Berry is enjoying the time he has got behind the wheel of the Chevrolet Camaro, he has hoped for a speedy recovery of Chase Elliott. In his opinion, Hendrick Motorsport’s number 9 Camaro belongs with Elliott and wants to hand its reigns to him the moment he is able to get back.

Until then, he will run the car to the best of his ability and score as many points as possible for the team. Moreover, while Berry managed P10 in Phoenix, Hendricks driver, William Byron continued his dominant run and won his second race of the current NASCAR campaign.

As things stand, there is no fixed date confirmed regarding the availability of Elliott Chase. Considering this fact, the onus will be on Berry again at the next event to do a solid race and again manage a top-10 finish. Looking at his Phoenix outing, would he be able to repeat his heroics again at the Atalanta Motor Speedway?
