The third seed is coming into this tournament having played plenty of matches on clay for 2021. After making the finals of the Italian Open last week, the American will be brimming with confidence. On the road to finals in Rome, she beat big names in Ashleigh Barty, Maria Sakkari and Aryna Sabalenka. At the start of April, she even made the quarterfinals in Charleston. For the year, she has won 8 matches and lost three on the dirt. Given her recent run, let us not be surprised if the 17-year-old makes another deep run in Parma this week.
On the other hand, the Italian has only played two matches on the clay this season. After the first round exit in Rome last week, the 29-year-old beat Christina Mchale in three, tight sets. Bulk of her matches in 2021 have come on the hard court, but there too the Giorgi failed to deliver.
