Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees put up a clinical performance on Monday as they took down the Baltimore Orioles 12-1. Following the game, the 3-time American League MVP delivered a heartfelt message regarding John Sterling.

Earlier in the day, the Yankees lost their longtime radio voice at the age of 87. Sterling, who was born in New York, spent 36 seasons as the play-by-play broadcaster of the Bronx Bombers.

After reports of his death came out, tributes started to pour in. Several MLB reporters and former players took to their social media accounts to honor him.

Before the game, Judge also made a statement. In an Instagram post, the Yankees captain shared a picture of himself and Sterling and wrote that it was a “tough day” in New York.

The center fielder opened the scoring with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. Michael Kay, who was close to Sterling and was announcing the game, would pay tribute to him with his signature home run call.

The Yankees were a bit relentless in this game. After being 6-1 up in the 8th inning, they added 6 more runs. After a bases-loaded walk allowed Trent Grisham to move to first base and make it a 7-1 game, Judge hit a 2-run single.

Cody Bellinger then hit a 2-run triple to put the Yanks up by 10 runs. A single from Jasson Dominguez saw Bellinger score from third. The Yankees thus ran out at 12-1 winners and clinched an emotional win in honor of Sterling.

After the game, Judge spoke with Meredith Marakovits of YES Network. When asked what made this team so relentless, the 7-time MLB All-Star expressed that he and his team were not going to lose on Monday while paying homage to Sterling.

We weren’t losing today, especially anytime you lose a Yankee legend like John Sterling, that’s a tough one. But the boys were fired up, ready to go, and really just fed off each other.

Aaron Judge told Meredith Marakovits

With the win, the Yankees completed a 4-game sweep of the Orioles. They outscored the O’s 39-10 across the series and improved their season record to 24-11.

Aaron Judge claims speaking with Anthony Volpe on phone for 30-40 minutes following demotion to minor league

On Sunday, the New York Yankees made a big decision and opted Anthony Volpe to the minor league. A day after this development, Aaron Judge spoke about this and told the reporters that he had a conversation with the shortstop on the phone for over 30-40 minutes.

The 25-year-old underwent shoulder surgery in October last year and was in a rehab assignment in the minor leagues. It seemed he would soon be joining the team and make his 2026 season debut.

However, the team decided to keep him in Triple-A. The Yankees backed Jose Caballero for the shortstop role following his impressive hitting and defensive plays in the past few games.

That was tough. Anthony’s my guy. I know he’s going to be more motivated than ever to come back here. The team’s been doing well. Caballero at shortstop is just doing an amazing job, defensively and offensively.

Aaron Judge said regarding Anthony Volpe

Volpe’s defense has been a concern for the Yankees in the past. Last season, he made some huge errors from the shortstop position and finished with a -6 outs above average.

Offensively, he hit 19 home runs and had 72 RBIs in the 2025 season with a .212/.272/.391 slash line. He, though, is expected to remain as a shortstop with George Lombard Jr. playing in the outfield for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
