The New York Mets are backing Carlos Mendoza. Despite the disappointing start of the team this year, the front office have extended its support towards the manager and does not intend to make a managerial change.
Mendoza and his side have been in a downward spiral this season. After being 7-4 for the year, the National League East team lost 12 straight games, their longest losing streak since 2002, and were left with a 7-16 record.
A 3-2 win over the Minnesota Twins snapped this losing run and gave them their first win in over two weeks. They followed this up with a 10-8 win, clinching the series. With a matchup against the Colorado Rockies next, it seemed things would finally get better for the team.
However, the Rockies had some other plans. The Denver-based side edged them out 4-3 on Friday before winning 3-1 and 3-0 in the Sunday doubleheader to complete a 3-game sweep.
With this loss, the pressure mounted on the shoulders of Mendoza. Many Mets fans on social media demanded that the team make a change and replace the Venezuelan international.
After winning the series opener 8-0 against the Washington Nationals, they lost 14-2 and 5-4 in the next two games and lost another 3-game set. This left the team with a 10-21 record, piling even more pressure on the team management.
They, however, are sticking with Mendoza. While speaking with MLB.com, Mets’ president of baseball operations David Stearns expressed that they are not viewing the current situation as a manager problem.
We know our record is not what we want, and we know we are capable of more. We don’t view this as a manager problem, and we don’t intend to make a change.
David Stearns said regarding Carlos Mendoza as per MLB.com

The team traveled to Anaheim on Friday to take on the Los Angeles Angels. Before the series opener, Mendoza claimed that nobody was happy with the situation at the team.
Steve (Cohen) is not happy. Alex (Cohen) is not happy. David (Stearns) is not happy. And I’m not happy. All of us are frustrated. Together, we’ve got to find a way to get these guys out of this funk.

The 10-21 start is the team’s third-worst in franchise history after 31 games. In 1981, they went 8-22-1, while in 1964, they started with a 9-22 record. In both of these seasons, they went on to miss the postseason.

Ok great so then it’s a Stearns problem. He should start packing his bags this second.

Please let them know that change is no longer up to the Mets. The change is up to the fans. We will stop coming to the games.

Fans shouldn't go near that ballpark the rest of the season.

Stearns is more concerned with having a guy in that dugout he can control than someone who knows how to win.
The whole organization is a fraud.
Honestly, this has kind of put me over the edge. I'm realizing they're not going to do anything. Not the easy stuff, not the hard stuff, not anything. They don't care, and now they've made me not care.

Once again the brilliant David Stearns knows more than anyone else. Everyone else is stupid. He is so bright the rest of MLB is laughing at him for the team he put together.

Yeah, I’m sorry, @StevenACohen2 is part of the problem.

Zero accountability, missing the playoffs 4 of 6 years and franchise needs to be rebuilt.
Absolute joke@AndrewLiv
Really disrespectful to the fanbase. See you next year

Cohen would never let one of his investment firms or other assets tank like this

He should be embarrassed
Honestly, who cares?

The egomaniac can’t admit mistakes. So, Mendoza stays.
Stearns has officially become the worst executive the Mets have ever had.
Unwatchable.
This development also comes at a time when the MLB has seen two big dismissals in the past week. Last Saturday, the Boston Red Sox fired longtime manager Alex Cora despite the team winning 17-1 against the Baltimore Orioles.
A few days later, Rob Thomson was the one to lose his job. The Philadelphia Phillies parted ways with him on Tuesday after the team was left with a 9-19 record. Under the leadership of interim manager Don Mattingly, the Phillies are 4-0.
Carlos Mendoza and Mets pick up important 4-3 win in series opener against Angels
After Carlos Mendoza received support from the New York Mets management, he needed a positive result on Friday. He did get that as the Mets rallied back and came out as 4-3 against the Los Angeles Angels in the series opener.

The team suffered an early blow as Jorge Soler smashed a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to put the Angels 2-0 up. A throwing error from catcher Francisco Alvarez saw the Angels extend their lead.
Alvarez then made up for his error with a single in the 6th inning. His line drive opened the scoring for the Mets. Marcus Semien later tied the game with a 2-run single to center field, which allowed Juan Soto and Alvarez to score.
With Francisco Lindor injured, Ronny Mauricio was called up from Triple-A. He crushed a solo home run in the 7th inning to complete the turnaround. His first home run of the year proved to be decisive as the Mets won 4-3.

Despite this win, the Mets remain with the worst record in the league at 11-21. They are 10 games behind the .500 win percentage and 11.5 games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves, who are 23-10 for the season.
