The New York Mets suffered a double blow on Sunday as they lost the doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies and got swept. Following the game, manager Carlos Mendoza made some blunt comments regarding the offensive woes of the team.
The National League East side have struggled at the plate this season. Just before this series against the Rockies, they ended a 12-game losing streak, which saw them get swept by the Athletics, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Chicago Cubs.
Following the loss in the series opener against the Minnesota Twins, the team bounced back. Two successive wins saw them win the series and give them some much-needed winning momentum.
However, this did not last long. On Friday, the Rockies ran out as 4-3 winners and snapped the Mets’ winning run. With their game on Saturday being postponed, Sunday became a doubleheader for the two sides.
In the first game, the Rockies emerged as 3-1 winners as the Mets registered just 4 hits. Hours later, the visitors did one better and shut out their opponents to claim a 3-0 win and complete the sweep.
Starting pitcher Kodai Senga had troubles on the mound again. He gave up 3 runs in 2.2 innings and was booed heavily by the fans when he left the game. The Japanese international was credited with the loss, which saw his record take another hit. He is now 0-4 for the season in 5 starts this year.

While Senga’s form is a concern for the team, it is their offense that has given major headaches to the fans. In the second game, the Mets managed just 6 hits. They scored just 4 runs in the 3-game set against the team that lost the most games last season.

In the press conference after the doubleheader, Mendoza did not mince his words. The 46-year-old claimed he had never seen such an offensive slump in his life.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this to be honest with you, that goes on for so long when you got so many guys struggling at the same time.

At the moment, the Mets do not have Francisco Lindor in the lineup. The shortstop suffered a left calf strain and was placed on the injured list. While Juan Soto has returned to the team and has batted with a .304 average this season, the others have been unable to provide any support.
Bo Bichette, who had a big moment against the Twins with a bases-clearing double in their 10-8 win against the Twins, failed to do much in the series. Marcus Semien went 1-for-12 in the series against the Rockies, while Jorge Polanco has been sidelined with injury as well.
All of this had led to some uncomfortable questions about Mendoza and the team management. The team currently ranks at the bottom of the league in the runs scored category with just 92 runs.

It’s been going on since June 2025 so I don’t understand his reaction.

With this, the Mets once again are tied for the worst record in the league. The Philadelphia Phillies, who broke their 10-game losing run on Saturday, suffered another defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Braves.
The two NL East sides now have a 9-19 record. Both of them are thus 10.5 games behind the Braves for first place in the division.
Carlos Mendoza unconcerned about future with the Mets
The 3-game sweep at the hands of the Colorado Rockies raised some tough questions regarding the New York Mets. One of them is the future of manager Carlos Mendoza. The Venezuelan, however, is unconcerned about this at the moment.

Mendoza was named as the manager of the team after the 2023 season. While he took his team to the National League Championship Series (NLCS) in his first year in charge, the team suffered major disappointment last year as they missed the playoffs.
With his team 9-19 after 28 games, his future has come into doubt. He, though, is not thinking about it and is only worried about how to get the team out of this slump.
The only thing I’m worried about here is I gotta get the guys going. I get it. I get it. It sucks and I know the questions will continue to come up, but my job is to find a way to get those guys out of the funk.
Carlos Mendoza told the reporters regarding his future

Speaking of manager firings, the Boston Red Sox on Saturday cut ties with longtime manager Alex Cora despite their 17-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Cora and his team were 10-17 for the year when he got sacked. Thus, there is a buzz regarding the future of Mendoza with the Mets.
