- Ronda Rousey expressed dissatisfaction with her second WWE run, citing difficulties working with Vince McMahon.
- She preferred Triple H to take over WWE's creative direction, believing it would improve backstage morale.
- Rousey felt her promo work suffered under McMahon's regime, leading to a lack of authenticity in her performances.
Ronda Rousey has aired the grievances of her second WWE run in a new interview with Complex. The UFC Hall of Famer returned to WWE in the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble match to eventually win the match. It fetched herself a world title shot at WrestleMania 38, but lost to Charlotte Flair on D-day.
Her comeback at the Rumble kickstarted her post-motherhood run in the company, which lasted almost 20 months. She had her last WWE match against Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam 2023. Rousey wanted to put her good friend over before bailing out. It capped off a forgettable WWE stint for ‘The Baddest Woman on the Planet’. But what actually made the entire experience so much more stressful for her?
As revealed by Rousey in the aforementioned interview, she was having a hard time working with her then-boss Vince McMahon. She alluded to the backstage turmoil going on in WWE that turned the place into a complete mess. Ronda Rousey revealed how WWE Superstars had to cope with last-minute changes in plans.
Ronda Rousey was asked what was the biggest difference between her first and second runs in WWE:

“The second run, Vince [McMahon] was just more far gone and more difficult to work with. There was a lot of inner turmoil going on in the company. It was kind of a sh*t show and… pic.twitter.com/ayDE5iHK7k
They had become unbearable, with Vince McMahon notoriously tearing the scripts apart minutes before a show was to air live. It would often result in a communication gap between wrestlers and producers. She further underscored the lack of collaborative efforts, and any such attempt would feel like negotiating as opposed to working in synergy to bring out the best.
The second run, Vince was just more far gone and more difficult to work with. There was a lot of inner turmoil going on in the company. You would get to the arena and you would be made to do something that somebody threw in your lap that hadn’t thought about it until 15 minutes before… I was definitely team Triple H to get up to take it over. I’ve heard it’s been much better since he’s taken things over, but unfortunately I didn’t get to experience it.

Rousey said she loved going out and wrestling in front of the fans, but the entire process leading up to it would often leave her anxious. Rousey wanted Triple H to take over the creative reins of WWE from Vince McMahon. The former Judoka said she’s heard positive things about the backstage morale in her former workplace since he has assumed charge.
She lamented about not getting to experience it in person. ‘The Arm Collector’ would reveal months after leaving WWE that she once sat down with ‘The Game’ and informed the incumbent WWE Chief Content Officer that she didn’t want to stay associated with mediocrity.
Ronda Rousey also claimed in a 2024 interview with Cageside Seats that McMahon never stopped meddling in WWE creative even after he had to temporarily step away from the company owing to the hush money allegations that surfaced in June 2022.
Rousey was then informed that the women in particular were receiving better treatment than how McMahon would use them. She was glad to hear that and hoped she could’ve had a longer run with ‘Hunter’ at the helm and his father-in-law completely out of the picture.
Ronda Rousey felt like doing someone else’s impression of her in WWE
In continuation of her ill feelings about the second WWE run that she had, Ronda Rousey would go on to say that it made her feel like she was doing someone else’s impression of herself. The 39-year-old MMA icon said that the fans could tell the difference in the promos that she had her inputs in against the ones that were laid out for her.

Rousey’s promo work was under fire during the majority of her later run, with several fans claiming that she didn’t sound authentic at all. Ronda Rousey enjoyed her time in the ring but not so much being under the death throes of Vince McMahon’s regime.

I learned a lot from it and I really enjoyed my time in the ring. I didn’t really enjoy being under the… pic.twitter.com/d92lFi23sk
The ex-UFC bantamweight champion’s working relationship with McMahon went completely off the rails by virtue of experiencing gender bias and having no creative leeway in WWE. The heinous allegations of misconduct levied against ‘Vinnie Mac’ further appalled Rousey more than ever before.
She chastised the lawsuit-facing former wrestling promoter on every ground he was accused for. Speaking of her current avenues, ‘The Rowdy One’ is slated for a return to MMA under Jake Paul‘s Most Valuable Promotions. She will take on Gina Carano at the Intuit Dome on May 16.
