Trick Williams has enchanted the WWE Universe through his charisma, quite like Oba Femi. Both of them have gotten immensely popular among the main roster audience in barely a few months. While Femi is pegged to be the next big thing in WWE, Williams is no less. But he’s also been asked to be wary of not letting the initial hype get to his head.
Speaking on the No Contest Wrestling podcast, Williams’ wrestling mentor and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T told the reigning United States Champion to not get complacent in what he described as the most pivotal time for a young wrestler like him. ‘Book’ underscored that Williams can’t start taking immense pride in the hype that’s been created around him just yet.
He cannot get complacent. He cannot start believing the hype. This is the time where he’s got to do more than he ever imagined to put himself into position to be that guy. That guy, such as a Roman Reigns, a guy who over these last 10 years, nobody has had a bad match with Roman Reigns because Roman is a hell of a general.……..

The ROW founder stated that ‘Trick Willy’ is currently in that phase of his career where he’ll have to grind more than he had ever imagined before to position himself as “that guy.” The 6-time world champion used Roman Reigns as an example of who Trick Williams should be striving to become.
Booker T has warned Trick Williams not to get "complacent" or start "believing the hype" about himself, saying he should look at someone like Roman Reigns as an example of what to strive to be in WWE:

‘King Booker’ hailed Reigns as one hell of a general for not allowing anyone to have a bad match with him over the last decade, which would be debatable if one got pedantic. Nonetheless, Booker T implied that ‘The OTC’ takes the audience on a ride through the storytelling he does in his matches.
The former Harlem Heat member knew that not everyone likes Roman Reigns, but at one point or another, they do acknowledge why he’s in a spot that he is right now. And that’s what Booker wants for Trick Williams. The WWE legend is pushing for the 31-year-old to start thinking about positioning himself as someone like Reigns because that’ll earn him the respect of the entire locker room.
Booker T reveals what Trick Williams need to take care of for sustained success on the main roster
In continuation of his comments on the aforementioned podcast, Booker T was asked if he’s content with Trick Williams’ progress on the main roster. The two-time WWE Hall of Famer said that although he’s happy, he can see through his student being the coach. He emphasized the importance of those small nuances in pro wrestling that capture the imagination of the fans.

Booker said that it’s something Williams shouldn’t get away from if he wants to make a sustained splash on the larger portion of the WWE Universe. It appears from T’s assessment that he’s still not completely satisfied with ‘Mr. Whoop That’, which is normal considering Booker has been a longtime mentor of Williams and continues to be so.

There are plenty of people who see a lot of Booker T in Trick Williams, which, although it is a testament to the latter’s demeanor, is more so an added pressure on his shoulders to fill in those shoes. Speaking of ‘Hollywood Trick’, he won the US title in his WrestleMania debut match this year against Sami Zayn.
The two had a rematch for the gold at Backlash, where ‘Trick Willy’ retained the title to apparently close his chapter with Zayn. Last Friday on SmackDown, Williams had his homecoming in South Carolina and, to no one’s surprise, received a thunderous welcome. The local favorite then defeated The Miz in a non-title match quite comprehensively.
The fans are eagerly awaiting the next credible challenger for Trick Williams and his United States Championship. Carmelo Hayes is one such name that’s being pushed for a full-fledged rivalry with ‘Mr. Whoop That’ as they have some rich history together. Melo and Williams were paired as a tag team in NXT for almost two and a half years.
