In Short
  • Brock Lesnar returned to WWE Raw a month after hinting at retirement at WrestleMania.
  • Tommy Dreamer defended Lesnar's return, emphasizing the importance of in-ring storytelling over behind-the-scenes speculation.
  • Lesnar is set for a rematch against Oba Femi at Clash in Italy, following a surprising attack on Femi during Raw.

Brock Lesnar‘s return on this week’s Raw has left many fans wondering what exactly changed over the last month. ‘The Beast’ left his gloves and boots in the ring at WrestleMania and waved to the crowd as if he were done. But he just went back on that 29 days later.

Bully Ray questioned on the Busted Open Radio podcast why Lesnar came back after explicitly teasing retirement at WrestleMania. Ray’s co-host, Tommy Dreamer, looked at it quite differently. He thinks the wrestling business has gotten so wrapped up in behind-the-scenes that it sometimes neglects what happens in front of the camera is where the real magic lies.

Speaking of Lesnar going back on his retirement rituals at WrestleMania, Dreamer pointed out that he’s a heel and could basically lie. The ECW icon also noted that Brock Lesnar got beaten up by Oba Femi, so he just suckered him into believing that he was done for good.

And the beatdown of Femi by Lesnar on Raw this Monday worked exactly because no one, let alone Femi, was expecting ‘The Beast’ to jump ‘The Ruler’ and hit him with four F-5s. Paul Heyman later handed over a contract to Adam Pearce that had his client’s ratification for a rematch with Oba Femi at Clash in Italy.

WWE is expected to make this official by next week’s Raw once ‘The Bringer of War’ signs on the dotted line as well. Circling back to Dreamer’s assessment of the situation, he noted how the fans love to speculate on things these days when they don’t have the complete information.

As for the 55-year-old, he thought that Lesnar’s return proved that the wrestling business can still have that shock value and make people believe something. He affirmed that everything about Lesnar laying waste to Femi worked because it didn’t get leaked online that the former UFC heavyweight champion was backstage.

Dreamer, at last, implored the wrestling fans to keep reminding themselves that what happens on the screen is, at times, the most important thing in pro wrestling.

Brock Lesnar added back to active roster page after shocking WWE return

In an obvious follow-up to Brock Lesnar‘s return on Raw, he’s been added back to the active superstars section on the official WWE roster page. It’s worth noting that ‘The One In 21-1’ got moved to the alumni section a few days ago, which prompted heavy speculation about him actually retiring from WWE.

In hindsight, that was done on purpose to throw the fans off. While Lesnar dropping Oba Femi with four F-5s had the crowd on its feet, what most of the live fans wouldn’t have noticed is the fact that the MMA icon ripped up his jeans once again in the process. It has happened before when Brock Lesnar was involved in a segment with R-Truth on SmackDown last September.

‘The Conqueror’ suffered a jeans explosion after hitting Truth with an F-5. Paul Heyman took to social media after Raw to comment on his client’s thunderous return. ‘The Oracle’ affirmed that the 48-year-old had finally decided to do something about Oba Femi. The entire world witnessed Lesnar getting dominated by ‘The Bringer of War’ last month at WrestleMania.

Femi decimated the 10-time world champion in under 5 minutes and established himself as the force to be reckoned with. ‘The Beast’ now seems hellbent on taking his rivalry with The Ruler to the next level.

Their almost-certain rematch against Clash in Italy is going to be a treat for those attending the show in Turin. Lesnar and Femi are now rumored for a trilogy, which would present itself should Lesnar beat Femi this time around.
