In Short
  • Tiger Woods will miss all four major championships for the second consecutive year.
  • He did not submit an entry for the Open Championship as he continues his rehab program.
  • Woods' last competitive appearance was at the 2024 Open Championship, where he missed the cut.

Tiger Woods will not appear in the upcoming majors. On Tuesday, reports emerged that the golfer did not submit an entry to be eligible for the Open Championship this year. This means that he will now miss all the 4 majors for a second straight year.

After missing the 2025 Genesis Invitational due to the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods, the 15-time major champion was expected to make his season debut at the Masters Tournament. However, he ruptured his Achilles tendon during the preparation for this tournament and missed it.

Woods ended up missing the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and the Open Championship as well due to this injury. Later in September, he underwent his 7th back surgery and had his disc replaced.

This year, he did appear at the TGL. With his team, the Jupiter Links GC 1-0 down in the best-of-three finals, the golfer stepped up on the surface and played in the all-important Game 2. Unfortunately, this move did not work out as he and his teammates had hoped, as they lost again and had to suffer for a runners-up spot.

Following this, there were several optimisms regarding him returning at the Augusta National for the Masters Tournament. He even made some subtle comments and did not fully rule out an appearance in this event.

However, just days before this event, he found himself in trouble. On March 28, his luxury SUV flipped over near his residence in Jupiter, Florida. While the PGA Tour star had a negative alcohol test, he refused to submit his urine sample for further tests.

He was later arrested on charges of DUI, refusal to submit, and property damage. 8 hours later, Woods was released on bail. During the questioning before this arrest, his pupils were dilated, and he was sweating profusely. Two hydrocone pills were also found in his pocket.

A few days after this incident, Woods announced a break from golf. In a post on X, the 50-year-old revealed that he will be undergoing treatment. He then flew to Zurich, Switzerland, and got himself admitted to a rehabilitation program.

Two weeks ago, Woods arrived back in America. At that point, it seemed his rehab was done. However, he flew back to Switzerland following this brief return.

He has not submitted his entry to be eligible for the Open Championship this year. As a past champion, he has an exemption until the age of 60 to appear in this. However, with him not submitting an entry, he will not be teeing up at Royal Birkdale.

Meanwhile, his longtime career rival, Phil Mickelson, has submitted an entry into this. The “Lefty” has only made an appearance on the LIV Golf circuit this year and has been away from action due to some personal family health matters. Whether he will tee off or not is not confirmed, but this does look like a promising sign for him.

Going back to Woods, his last competitive start came at the 2024 Open Championship, where he missed the cut. Since the huge car crash in 2021, the former World No.1 has played in just 8 majors, missing the cut in 4 of them and withdrawing in the others. His last top-10 finish in a major came at the Masters Tournament in 2019, when he won the event for a 5th time.

Tiger Woods recently broke his silence on social media and honored his late father

This year, Tiger Woods found his name in the headlines for the wrong reasons once again, following his car crash in March. Since then, he has only made one statement. Recently, he made a rare social media post and honored his late father, Earl Woods.

His father was a U.S. Army infantry officer who served for 20 years. He worked as a Special Forces operator in Vietnam. In his latter years, he became his coach and helped him with golf.

During Woods’ rise to stardom, his father was often present at events. In May 2006, Earl Woods passed away due to prostate cancer at the age of 74. Following his win at the Open Championship, where he successfully defended his title, the golfer broke down emotionally.

On Monday, during Memorial Day, the 50-year-old paid tribute to his late father. In the post on X, he even hailed the United States and called it the “greatest country” on Earth.

My father was a Special Forces operator with two tours in Vietnam and 20 years of service. To all those like my father, we all say thank you for your sacrifices. Without them we wouldn’t have the greatest country on Earth.

Amidst all of this, the huge question remains the same. When will Woods return to the greens? At the moment, he is ranked 4990th in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). With his absence from the majors this year, he will fall out of the OWGR completely due to their two-year rolling cycle.
