The yearlong trade saga surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo finally came to an end on Monday. The Milwaukee Bucks traded away their superstar player to the Miami Heat in exchange for for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, one pick swap and one second-round pick.

The move saw Antetokounmpo’s 13-year spell in Milwaukee come to an end. They drafted the Greek star as the 15th pick in the 2013 NBA draft. He went on to become the face of the franchise and delivered them their first championship after five decades in 2021.

During his time with them, the Bucks did everything they could to keep their franchise player happy. They added his brothers Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Alex Antetokounmpo to the organization. Thanasis spent six seasons with Giannis in the Bucks, while Alex joined them in Giannis’ final season.

However, it has been reported by NBA insider Ramona Shelburne that the Heat will not be doing the same for Giannis.

There won’t be anymore Antetokounmpo brothers in Miami. That whole ‘we have Kostas and Thanasis on the team’ I don’t think that’s going to continue from what I understand.

The Heat trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo is the biggest move in the offseason so far. The move brought a huge sigh of relief among NBA fans as his future has been up in the air for a long time now and also considering his relationship with the franchise was taking a toll towards the end of the regular season.

All the Antetokounmpo brothers have a sporting background. Thanasis and Alex Antetokounmpo did not see much playing time with the Bucks. They were mostly restricted to the bench and were used as role players, mostly during garbage time. However, the Heat have no plans on taking the same route as the Bucks did to keep their superstar comfortable.

LeBron James is what the Miami Heat need after trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo

LeBron James‘ future is up in the air now after his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers came to an end in the offseason. While James remains undecided on his future, rumors have been swirling nonstop. There have also been rumors of him returning to the Heat and pairing up with Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Sports media personality Colin Cowherd reacted to the speculation of James returning to Miami.

LeBron is what they need! Scoring, facilitating. That’s what Miami is going to be struggling with.

Colin Cowherd said in Herd with Colin Cowherd

The Heat do need to make a lot of changes to their roster if they are to contend for the title next season. A move for James could solve a lot of holes in their squad, but it remains to be seen if he decides to leave the Lakers first.

The Heat will be focused on surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo with shooters

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s move to the Heat sees him pairing up with Bam Adebayo in the front court. The two big men will be a dominant force in the paint on both ends of the court. But the Heat will be looking to surround the two stars with shooters as the opposition will look to crowd the paint against Antetokounmpo and Adebayo.

NBA insider Shams Charania revealed that the Heat will be focused on acquiring shooting in the offseason.

I talked to someone very close to the situation in Miami today. What I was told is ‘shooting, shooting, shooting.’ That is the upmost priority list for the Miami Heat….. the Heat know they have to build around Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo. When you think about duos, there might not be a better duo in the Eastern Conference.

Shams Charania on SportsCenter

The Heat are coming off a subpar 2025-26 campaign. After missing the playoffs this year, it looks like they are looking to make a deep run next season. Acquiring a superstar like Antetokounmpo signifies they mean serious business heading forward.
