Brandon Aiyuk’s behavior is making former San Francisco 49ers concerned for his well-being. Steve Young, who won three Super Bowls with the 49ers, reacted to Aiyuk rebelling against the Bay Area franchise.
Before taking his first swing at the American Century Championship gold tournament in Lake Tahoe, reporters asked Young for his opinion on Aiyuk’s recent antics. Young’s jovial mood evaporated after hearing the question. In a deep voice, the Hall of Fame quarterback said that he’s worried about Aiyuk.
I worry for [Brandon Aiyuk]. [I feel like] I want to reach out and help. This is beyond football, it feels like.

Aiyuk has gone rogue. After signing a club-record fee for a wide receiver—a $30 million per year contract extension in 2024—the Niners fans expected him to assume the WR1 role for years to come. However, seven games into his new deal, he suffered a bad ACL tear. His season ended.

Months passed, but Aiyuk did not report back to the club. He even missed the entire 2025 season. The Niners made the next move, voiding Aiyuk’s 2026 guarantees. As the club is not paying his wages, Aiyuk is using the help of social media to wage a war of words against them.
The 28-year-old’s future with the Niners looks bleak. He willingly wants to leave the team and play for the Washington Commanders. At Washington, he can link up with his former Arizona State teammate, Jayden Daniels, who is now the starting quarterback there.
49ers insider rips Brandon Aiyuk
Aiyuk’s contract ends after the 2028 season. It means he still has three years left. But he’s not making it easy for the 49ers to reinstate him.

Moreover, he’s also confessed that he will continue posting on social media even after joining the Commanders. The California Post’s Vincent Bonsignore urged Aiyuk to end his antics right now before it’s too late.
Brandon Aiyuk, it’s time to put your phone down, buddy. Your act has grown stale, if not cringey. Whatever salient message you’ve tried to deliver through a series of social media posts has been lost in the creepiness of it all. That includes Tuesday’s post in which you insist you will not take the necessary steps to seek reinstatement from the 49ers. That means you will continue to remain in career limbo for reasons only you can explain.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler agrees with Bonsignore. He has had enough of Aiyuk calling the 49ers out for blocking his salary. Fowler stated that the Niners don’t need to do anything because Aiyuk’s unlikely to be part of the 53-man roster for the new season.

The 49ers drafted Aiyuk 25th overall in 2020. Since then, he has caught 294 passes for 4305 yards and scored 25 touchdowns. In 2023, he recorded 75 receptions, 1342 yards, and scored 7 touchdowns, earning the extension.
Aiyuk spent his senior year of college with Daniels. That year, he caught 65 passes for 1192 yards and scored 11 touchdowns.
