The Los Angeles Rams are already a super team, and yet they can still improve the roster with one big addition: Aaron Donald. The Rams fans recently received positive news on Donald’s possible return.

A TMZ Sports report states that Donald, 35, trained at the Rams facility in LA. This is massive news for the franchise and the fans.

Donald played an instrumental role in the Rams’ last Super Bowl triumph. He retired after the 2023 campaign, but there’s a real chance that he could make a comeback to help the team win another championship.

Sources told TMZ Sports about Donald’s recent activities. The All-Pro pass rusher “spent about an hour on the field doing ladder drills, medicine ball throws, and agility work, pushing himself to the limit until he was clearly gassed.”

Earlier in the year, NFL insider Jordan Schultz received a text message from Donald. In it, Donald hinted about unretiring.

I’m for sure flirting with the idea. Helluva an opportunity with the Super Bowl in SoFi this year. If I can find the fire, it’s a possibility.

What is the reason behind Aaron Donald’s sudden change of heart?

Donald walked away from football because he achieved what he set out to do, win a Super Bowl. He also won eight All-Pro and ten Pro Bowl honors, and he was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year on three different occasions. Then again, he only has one championship ring in his collection.

The Rams came close to winning the Super Bowl last year. They were knocked out in the NFC title game by rivals, the Seattle Seahawks. Donald watched the disappointing end from his home.

To make sure that they don’t fall short again, Sean McVay and Les Snead made a couple of key additions to the team in the offseason. Early on, they traded for Super Bowl-winning corner Trent McDuffie from the Chiefs and pulled off the biggest heist of the summer by trading the reigning DPOY, Myles Garrett, from the Browns.

Per FOX Sports, the Rams are the betting favourites to win the 2026-27 Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium. So, it makes sense for Donald to hop back on the train for one last ride.

Reporters asked Garrett whether he would be open to sharing the defensive line with Donald. Garrett did not hesitate to say yes. However, he declined to comment further on the matter because, at the end of the day, the decision to return to active football rests with Donald.

The Rams (still at St. Louis) drafted Donald, a University of Pittsburgh alum, 13th overall in 2014. In 154 appearances, he racked up 543 combined tackles, 111 sacks, 176 tackles for loss, 21 passes defended, and 24 forced fumbles.

In 2018, Donald signed a six-year, $135 million contract extension with $87 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid edge rusher at the time. Four years later, the Rams made changes to his contract, which added $40 million over the last three years of the original six-year deal.

Donald played just one more year of football before announcing his retirement. He still had a couple more years remaining on the contract. According to the Celebrity Net Worth tracker, Aaron Donald has a net worth of $60 million as of 2026.
