The Miami Heat have emerged as a strong contender to sign free agent superstar LeBron James, despite being overshadowed by the presence of other ‘hallowed’ options.

They leaped into the discussion when they first traded Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, questions about the construction of their roster left some believing that the King may not think the team is capable of helping him win another championship or two.

In the meantime, other teams, such as the Philadelphia 76ers, the Golden State Warriors, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, enjoyed most of the limelight. That is, until two things happened.

One was that the Heat made some under-the-radar roster additions that impressed everyone. After that, when Pat Riley revealed that he and the front office had another plane to land after Antetokounmpo, everyone felt he may have been talking about his former player.

Such hints came with the natural questions about his relationship with LeBron James. After all, the superstar’s departure left the Godfather and the Heat in a hole that took a few years to recover. When asked about it, the 81-year-old said:

We had a great embrace when they honored me with a statue out there (LA)… LeBron and I, we haven’t talked much. But you let go of that stuff. I was very disappointed because I thought we were looking at a dynasty… When he left, it was very disappointing… I don’t want to hang onto that. I want to see him somewhere on the golf course one day.

The legendary coach brought up the time when he and the four-time champion embraced at the Lakers’ statue unveiling to suggest that both of them have moved past their differences.

Pat Riley does not know what LeBron James will do

Pat Riley confirming that he and LeBron James have moved past their so-called differences has been touted as the reason the league’s all-time leading scorer might return to the Miami Heat. However, the franchise President is clueless about the forward’s intentions.

I don’t know. I have nothing, as I think everybody else that had an opportunity to talk with him are just sort of waiting… This is a man’s decision. You let him make that decision. He has the right to do that. I’m not calling Rich (Paul) every day and bugging him. He’ll make a decision.

Riley said

As experienced as he is, Riley knows the league will find out in a few days. After all, their schedule has been put on hold until James decides where he is going to play.

But this was his way of letting Dan Le Batard‘s viewers know that nothing is set in stone. Whenever the four-time league MVP decides, the Heat executive will also know.

LeBron James has no timetable for announcing his next move

With Pat Riley claiming that he does not know when LeBron James will make his decision, NBA Today decided to ask ESPN’s lead insider whether he has any update from his sources.

I spoke to Rich Paul, his longtime agent… The choice is LeBron James’ right now… There is no decision, no choice yet, no timetable on a choice as of yet.

Shams Charania revealed

This means that there is no clear schedule for when the 41-year-old will announce his plans for next season and beyond. Therefore, it is likely that he will take a few more days before deciding on his future.

But Charania did confirm that the three Eastern Conference teams, namely the Heat, the Cavaliers, and the 76ers, are the ones James is leaning towards. That means that barring any surprises, his stint in the Western Conference is likely over.
