Shedeur Sanders shed light on his relationship with Cleveland Browns teammate Deshaun Watson. Despite being direct competitors for the Browns’ starting quarterback job, both share a level of respect for each other.

After Sanders’ rookie year ended, the Browns went through a big overhaul. They appointed former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as head coach. Browns fans expected Monken to declare Sanders the de facto starter until Deshaun Watson re-entered the picture.

Watson missed eighteen months of football after suffering multiple ACL injuries. He has been in rehab ever since. As he is on a massive contract, the Browns opted to keep the former first-round draft pick.

Watson’s experience and his contract situation may have kept him on the team, but Monken made it very clear he must defeat Sanders in the spring training camp to bag the QB1 job.

That was a couple of months ago. Since then, the Browns have completed the OTAs and the minicamp. According to multiple reports, neither quarterback had the upper hand. Sanders, in fact, managed to close the gap on Watson.

Only a week left before the Browns kick off their training camp at the CrossCountry Mortgage Campus in Berea, Ohio. Before that, Watson and Sanders jointly held a passing camp in Miami last week. Watson and some of the Browns’ offensive players stayed in Miami while Sanders arrived at Brooklyn High School, Ohio, during the weekend to host his youth camp.

Reporters asked Sanders to explain his relationship with Watson.

It’s the same thing that we’ve been saying from Day 1. We’re both trying to be the best version of ourselves we could be. So, we’re not going to let anything get in between of that. So, it’s a level of respect that we all in the quarterback room have for each other. And we’re not really emotional when it comes to things that we can’t control. We mainly focus on and thrive on getting better in the work every day. So, if I like something he’s doing, I ask. If he likes something I do, then [h] ask. It’s conversation, and that’s what’s most effective.

Analyst makes a surprise trade proposal for Shedeur Sanders

A couple of weeks back, talks of the Browns trading Sanders after just one year were making rounds on social media. Those rumors haven’t died down yet. As a matter of fact, experts have concocted a few intriguing trade proposals of late.

FanSided analyst Justin Carter wrote that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should trade for Sanders.

The Buccaneers have to throw in an extra seventh-round pick here. I also think if they had to go up to a fifth and sixth, they could, though that would only be in the event of a bidding war for Sanders, which likely won’t happen.

Baker Mayfield’s three-year contract with the Buccaneers is slated to end after the 2026 season. They have held talks about extending Mayfield, but nothing concrete has been finalized.

Even if the Bucs give Mayfield another contract, they will still require a backup for the former Heisman Trophy winner. They brought in ex-Bengals QB2 Jake Browning in the offseason, but acquiring Sanders has the bigger upside.

The Browns drafted Sanders in the fifth round last year. He was buried in the depth chart behind Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel. After both Flacco and Gabriel lost their position, the Browns turned to Sanders. The former Colorado starter went 3-4 in the regular season. He completed 56.6% of his passes for 1400 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
