LeBron James shook the NBA world when he parted ways with the Los Angeles Lakers. Many expected the King to end his career with the Lakers, especially after playing there for eight years and sharing the court with his son, Bronny James. But he had other ideas.
To add to everyone’s surprise, James announced that he would be joining the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year deal. The move sees James join forces with Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey in Philly.
James’ former Lakers teammate Patrick Beverley did not hesitate to call the 76ers the most dominant team.
I don’t wanna hear it. This is the most dominant team we’ve done seen. The most dominant team we’ve done seen. We’re talking about Tyrese Maxey; an All-Star. VJ Edgecombe — a young two-way player, bright future. Jaylen Brown led a hospital team to second in the Eastern Conference. LeBron James, The King, we don’t have to say nothing. Embiid. You can take every player off the team; still have Embiid, and go to the playoffs. I don’t want to hear it. Nick Nurse, one of the best to ever do it.

It is a bold take from Patrick Beverley as the 76ers have not played a single game with their star-studded squad. Beverley was on the receiving end of James’ clap back on social media when he fueled rumors that the four-time champion was announcing his decision on Monday. While James did make the announcement later that week on Friday, he did not appreciate Beverley’s social media post.
It is hard to argue that James has played with a more talented team than the current 76ers squad. But it remains to be seen how well they adjust to each other once the season gets underway. However, on paper, they may have the strongest starting five in the NBA and a championship-winning head coach in Nick Nurse.
Chandler Parsons makes LeBron James ‘glue guy’ claim
While James stole the headlines in the offseason, the biggest surprise to many was when the Boston Celtics traded away Jaylen Brown to the 76ers earlier this month. The move saw the 76ers emerge as strong contenders to beat the New York Knicks. However, after the addition of James, they have all the weapons to win their first championship since 1983.
Former NBA star Chandler Parsons delivered his honest take on what adding James to a talented 76ers team will mean.
I think this is the best possible chance for him to compete for a championship. I think it’s the best roster. The best starting 5 that he kind of completes when you look at Maxey, VJ, alongside Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid. I think it’s going to be a good spot for him to go in there to kind of be that point-forward general, similar to his role with the Lakers the last couple of years. I think you mentor Jaylen Brown. I think he can kind of be that glue guy.

James saw his role change after the Lakers traded for Luka Doncic at the trade deadline last year. He adjusted and sacrificed his game as the Slovenian guard became the focal point of the team. It looks like he will be expected to do the same in Philly next season.
Danny Green was shocked to see LeBron James join the 76ers
Many expected LeBron James to end his career in Cleveland. He was drafted by the Cavs in 2003 and played 11 seasons for them over two stints. He is undoubtedly the greatest player to ever play for them and brought relevancy to the franchise. Even Kenny Atkinson revealed that they were in the hunt to sign the 41-year-old. Unfortunately, that did not happen in the end.
Former player Danny Green, who won a championship with James in LA, was left surprised after James announced that he would be joining the 76ers.
I was like this can’t be real news, Shams is somebody hacking you, this can’t be real news, you know what I’m saying? 2 years $8 million to Philly none of that was in the cards for me. So, yeah it was shocking it was just as shocking as the Jaylen Brown news probably for me.

While James did mention that money was not a priority for him anymore, his two-year, $8 million contract did catch many by surprise. The hype and expectations surrounding the 76ers are higher than ever. They have the star player and playoff experience needed to go all the way next year.
