Jordan Spieth will not play in the BMW Championship next week. On Sunday, he got eliminated from the FedEx Cup playoffs despite a T19 finish. The golfer, though, was confident about his form and believes he is getting back to his very best.
The 3-time major champion has been on a decline in recent years. His last win on the PGA Tour came at the RBC Heritage in April 2022. He has been on a winless run for more than 4 years now.
This season was also a lackluster one. While he made the cut in 19 of the 22 events he played and had 10 top-25 finishes, he did not record a single top-10 finish.
His best finish was T11 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Valspar Championship. The former World No.1 was the only golfer to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs this year without any top-10 finish.
Given his performances this season, the American needed a strong showing at the FedEx St. Jude Championship to move ahead in the playoffs. He started strongly and fired a 5-under-par score to finish the first round in T1. This marked the first time since 2023 that he had shared an 18-hole lead.

Unfortunately, he was unable to keep the momentum going. He shot 69 and 72 in the second and third rounds, respectively. After he started the week ranked 54th in the FedEx Cup standings, he was just inside the circle until the back nine on Sunday.
Back-to-back bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes derailed him. He carded a final-round score of 70 and finished 52nd in the standings. As only the top-50 advance to the BMW Championship, Spieth was eliminated from the playoffs.

This marks a 3rd straight year that he misses the BMW Championship. Following the round, Spieth spoke about his current form and expressed confidence in himself.
I just feel like I’m kind of getting back to playing really good golf, like it’s close to kicking off. … I’m very, very confident in what’s coming. I just ran out of steam and maybe made a couple bad decisions over about a six-week stretch on what I was working on.
Jordan Spieth told the reporters
Jordan Spieth was projected inside the top 50 with nine holes to play @FedExChamp, but a back-nine 37 left him just short of advancing to @BMWChamps and qualifying for next year's Signature Events.

Social media reacts to Jordan Spieth’s comments after FedEx Cup playoffs elimination

He is delusional. He is getting worse by the year.

Love Jordan but just can't count on him anymore. Sad to watch

Totally delusional.

Change your putter, get a new coach who gets you back to playing naturally (improved this year) and time for a new caddie who will keep you from making dumb decisions and spending the day making lame excuses for poor shots.
Stop making excuses.

He will never be a great player again until he gets away from McCormick. He needs a new Swing Coach with different ideas.

He’s still so delusional, we’re not buying it anymore Jordan. He’s an average PGA TOUR player. He’s not “close.“ Now he has plenty of time to still not change coaches or anything else.

This is pretty much the same interview he’s given the past 8 years.

He’s no longer relevant.
Love the guy. But clueless. Can’t putt and a wild card when times get tough. Great run 12 years ago but he finished.

Don't think. Play golf. If you can't, get professional help.

You twitch waaaaaaaaay too much.
Other big names who missed out on the BMW Championship were Keith Mitchell, Max Homa, Michael Kim, Shane Lowry and Brian Harman. Jackon Koivun, who reached the playoffs with just 5 professional starts and 1 win, finished 67th with a T24 finish.
Jordan Spieth did admit that he let himself down with his emotions during the FedEx St. Jude Championship
Jordan Spieth suffered another setback as he missed out on the BMW Championship for a 3rd straight year. While the 33-year-old was confident about his game, he did admit that his emotions let him down during the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

After an opening round 65, he shot 69 in the second round. It was moving day on Saturday, when he stumbled a bit. Following 1 bogey and 8 pars on the front nine, he had an up-and-down 4-hole stretch to begin the back nine.
He started with a bogey on the 10th hole and followed it up with back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12. Then he made a bogey on the 13th hole. This saw his score go from 2-over par to 1-over par. Another bogey on the 17th hole took his score to 2-over par once again.
While speaking with the reporters on Sunday, he pointed out his emotions during his stretch and how it affected him.
It felt all right today. Yesterday I let myself down with emotions. … Yesterday really set me back. Felt like I stayed pretty calm, got off to the start I wanted. Then around that 11, 12, 13, 14 stretch, if you can get through there unscathed, you know you’re looking at some opportunities on the other holes.
Jordan Spieth told the reporters
Spieth will now have some time off before he tees up next. Speaking of the PGA Tour, the attention now turns towards the BMW Championship.
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler will enter that tournament as the defending champion. He will also start the event after winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Sunday. While Spieth struggled to make it through, Scheffler picked up an 8-shot victory to clinch his 21st PGA Tour win.
