On Tuesday, Brian Rolapp made some huge announcements regarding the future of the PGA Tour. After revealing a new structure for the season-ending playoffs, he addressed the talks of LIV Golf stars’ potential return to the tour. During this, he claimed that the players will have to earn their way back.
LIV Golf’s future remains uncertain at the moment. While the league has secured funding for the 2027 season, there are reports that some of the top names, such as Jon Rahm, remain uncommitted.
Rahm, the former World No.1, is one of the biggest names on the LIV Golf tour. The Spaniard joined the league in December 2023 in a deal reported to be between $300-$600 million.
According to a recent report from The Telegraph, the 2-time major champion will make a decision regarding his future soon. His potential departure would be a major loss for the league.
🚨👋🏻⛳️ #BREAKING — The Telegraph is reporting that Jon Rahm is likely set to depart the LIV Golf League at the conclusion of the 2026 season with LIV sources “almost resigned” to the news already, with a final decision expected in the coming weeks. If he does leave, will he be allowed to return to the PGA Tour? That has been the question in the minds of several golf fans.
In the press conference on Tuesday, Rolapp mentioned that there would be no return of the Returning Member Program. Earlier this year, the PGA Tour reinstated 5-time major champion Brooks Koepka through this program after he left LIV Golf last December.
PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp just said there are currently no plans in place to reintroduce the Returning Member Program which Brooks Koepka utilised to make his PGA Tour return after leaving LIV Golf.

Rahm had the opportunity to return through this window. As per the program, a player could return if they had been away from the tour for 2 or more years and had won either The Players Championship or any one of the 4 majors since 2022.
The Legion XIII captain was eligible to return through his 2023 Masters Tournament victory. However, he snubbed the chance back then.
Rolapp later appeared on the Pat McAfee Show. During this, he once again claimed that the PGA Tour was based on “meritocracy” and that those who want to return would have to “earn” their way back.
The great thing about golf is it’s a meritocracy, and basically, you earn what you earn. And I think whatever we do for whomever, whatever player, if you’ve been on the Tour before or haven’t been on the Tour before, you’re going to have to earn it. Right? And so you have to earn your way back.
Brian Rolapp said
"I don't know what's going on with LIV and we've been clearly focused on the @PGATOUR..

Those guys that are under contract I don't know when they're not gonna be under contract..

Rolapp also pointed out that several LIV stars were under contract. The incoming PGA Tour Commissioner expressed that once these players can demonstrate that they are not under contract anymore, then they (PGA Tour) will have a discussion.
Brian Rolapp admitted that the PGA Tour will be transparent while discussing LIV golfers’ potential return
At the moment, there are no direct pathways for LIV Golf stars’ potential return to the PGA Tour. As per Brian Rolapp, if a player is no longer under contract with LIV, then they will have discussions with them. The 54-year-old later admitted that they will, however, be transparent with those who desire to come back.

Rolapp was not part of the PGA Tour when the golf world got divided in 2022. Several marquee names left the tour and joined the then-Public Investment Fund (PIF) backed league on huge contracts.
On the Pat McAfee Show, Rolapp claimed that there were good and bad consequences of the decisions made by those who chose to stay and those who decided to jump ship. He then mentioned that the PGA Tour has to be fair.
What’s important is that we just have to be fair. You have people who made a decision to get out of their contract to come back early, like Brooks Koepka. He made a decision. … Other people didn’t. That was a choice everyone sort of made. So, we’ll be transparent about it but we’re gonna make sure what’s in the best interest of the PGA Tour.
Brian Rolapp added
"People made the decisions they made and there were consequences of those decisions..

As of now, one player whose contract with LIV Golf will expire is Bryson DeChambeau. The American international is in the final year of his deal and has not signed a contract extension yet.
The 2-time U.S. Open winner has been highly vocal about his league and defended it several times. However, given the current state of his tour, there are some questions about whether his stay with them has come to an end or not.
