Aaron Rodgers called out Roman Wilson for dropping a routine pass at Wednesday’s practice. Rodgers revealed Wilson made the same mistake earlier in the offseason practice.

On Wednesday, the Steelers resumed their training sessions following a couple of hectic days of roster realignment.

According to Alan Saunders of Steelers Now, Wilson failed to catch a pass from Rodgers that ticked off the veteran signal-caller. Saunders and Brooke Pryor of ESPN claimed cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. intercepted the pass.

Aaron Rodgers put Wilson on the spot when asked about the dropped catch.

“Roman made a repeat mistake… He did the same thing early in training camp,” Rodgers told the media.

Fans criticize Aaron Rodgers for his treatment of Roman Wilson

Rodgers returned to the Steelers for one final season after taking them as far as the wildcard game in 2025. Rodgers threw Wilson his first professional catch in the loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson ended his second year with 12 catches for 166 yards and one touchdown.

Experts expect Wilson to take the next step in year three. His main competition is rookie first-rounder Germie Bernard. According to league reports, both receivers impressed at the camp. However, it wasn’t devoid of errors.

Rodgers is very demanding of his receivers. Anyone who does not meet his high standards will get called out one way or the other. And Wilson drew the short end of the stick this time.

Whenever Rodgers says something in the media, fans often exaggerate the negatives and sidestep the positives. Sure, Rodgers sounded unhappy with Wilson, but the four-time league MVP praised the former Michigan star’s work ethic and hunger for improving his craft.

Roman is a great kid. He’s had a fantastic camp. I have utmost confidence in him. He’s going to have to play a big role for us. But mistakes can happen. That’s a great one to happen in practice. But he’s gotten a lot better, and I’m really proud of Roman.

Aaron Rodgers said

Rodgers noted that Wilson and DK Metcalf had “arguably two of the top probably five camps on the team.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Roman Wilson 84th overall in 2024. Wilson suffered an injury during camp and did not make his league debut until Week 6. However, he was placed on injured reserve after the fixture, ending his season. The Steelers later revealed that he suffered an ankle injury. In year two, he started four games (appeared in 13).

2026 is a make-or-break year for Wilson. After this, he will have one year left on his rookie contract. Bernard has all the tools to leave Wilson behind and take the WR2 spot if the CFP champion doesn’t prove that he can be useful in the long run.
