About a month ago, Aaron Rodgers criticized ESPN for its lack of coverage of former NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic and the New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel’s alleged scandal. Rodgers launched a fresh attack on ESPN while appearing on Pittsburgh Steelers teammate Cam Heyward’s Not Just Football podcast.
The Vrabel-Russini scandal generated massive buzz in the offseason. Many big outlets and independent journalists, like Pablo Torre, dug deep to uncover the truth. The Athletic also launched an investigation.
However, ESPN surprisingly stayed quiet on this topic even though Russini hosted shows on the network for years. Rodgers called ESPN “gutless” for seemingly overlooking a potential conflict of interest between a reporter and an NFL head coach. Rodgers told Cam Heyward on his podcast:
I also said you are a gutless organization because they haven’t said anything. They spend so much time on certain issues, but you won’t talk one second on the Dianna Russini situation.

In August, Rodgers appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and addressed ESPN’s lack of interest in the Vrabel-Russini scandal. Rodgers told McAfee:
You have literally an individual that maybe used to work at ESPN, that covers our league at the highest level. And there’s a major scandal. And it’s just like nobody can [not] talk about it.
Fans first learned about the scandal in April through an expose from the New York Post. The Post revealed several controversial photographs and speculated whether Russini and Vrabel were having an extramarital affair.
Russini resigned from the Athletic and disappeared from the public eye. Vrabel underwent a media trial, while the Patriots organization received heavy criticism for keeping Vrabel on board despite the abundant evidence.
The Athletic recently released the results of its investigation into Russini. The publication found that Russini had taken advantage of her position as an NFL insider to gain special favors.
According to the latest news, Russini is looking to resume her career. Vrabel and the Patriots, meanwhile, suffered defeat to the Seattle Seahawks on opening day of the 2026 NFL season.
Aaron Rodgers revealed why ESPN’s Mina Kimes ended their friendship
During the latest episode of the Not Just Football podcast, Rodgers spoke about his friendship with ESPN analyst Mina Kimes. They used to be very good friends, but their friendship ended because of COVID-19.

Rodgers famously butted heads with the government regarding the use of vaccines. He said he was immunized against the virus, but later reports suggested that he didn’t receive an FDA-approved vaccine. This apparently ended his friendship with Mina Kimes.
Mina Kimes had me to her house for a feature that I did. All these people were my friends in the media until I came out against COVID.
Aaron Rodgers calls out @minakimes: “I feel like there’s a ton of hypocrisy out there. You know, everybody loved, you know, loved hearing about my takes on Colin Kaepernick when I said he was one of the top 64 quarterbacks in the league. They enjoyed my takes. Mina Kimes, you…

Rodgers famously blasted Dr. Anthony Fauci on the Pat McAfee Show for pleading the Fifth Amendment in Congress when asked about the vaccine his team had developed.
Rodgers and the Steelers are set to open their 2026 regular season by facing the Atlanta Falcons. The Steelers are 3.5-point favorites to secure a win.
Rodgers joined the Steelers in 2025. He helped them reclaim the AFC North crown with a 10-7 record. However, they lost to the Texans in the wildcard round. He was tipped to retire after the playoff exit. However, after months of speculation, he agreed to extend his career by one year.
