Joe Burrow Enjoys Away Games More Than Playing in Cincinnati Because He Loves Silencing The Crowd

The Cincinnati Bengals are on the road for the second consecutive week. Some teams might view this arrangement as a precarious way to start a campaign. However, Joe Burrow is different. The Bengals quarterback says he loves playing in such road/away games.
Cincinnati is 2-0 with wins over the Houston Texans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On Sunday, September 27, the Bengals play AFC North rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, in Pittsburgh.
During Wednesday’s press conference, Burrow said he prefers playing on the road to playing at home at Paycor Stadium. He gave a simple yet significant explanation.
I have always loved playing on the road. I have always enjoyed that, almost more than [playing at] home. Just like you can feed off of… home crowd’s energy, [you can] feed off of away crowd’s energy, positively and negatively. There’s no better feeling than scoring a big touchdown [on the road] and it getting really quiet, but you can still hear a couple of Bengals fans in the stands.

The Bengals visited NRG Stadium to play the Texans last week. Despite taking 5 sacks, Burrow threw 20 completions on 31 attempts for 207 yards and 2 touchdowns. Ja’Marr Chase caught 7 passes for 75 yards and scored two touchdowns. Tee Higgins caught 5 passes for 95 yards.
Burrow has played 40 away games since debuting in 2020. He has a record of 22-17-1.
In Week one, the Bengals hosted the Buccaneers. Burrow went 25 of 35 passes for 254 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Tight end Mike Gesicki caught 5 passes for 78 yards and scored one touchdown.
Burrow holds a career home record of 24-17 (22-16 in the regular season and 2-1 in the postseason). The Bengals haven’t qualified for the playoffs since 2022. A year earlier, they lost the Super Bowl to the Los Angeles Rams.
What is Joe Burrow’s record against the Steelers?
Fans have already seen some blockbuster rivalry games in the first two weeks. The New York Giants took down the Dallas Cowboys on opening night, and the Las Vegas Raiders piled on the misery on the Los Angeles Chargers the following Sunday, to name a couple.

The Bengals-Steelers fixture is shaping up to be a thriller. Pittsburgh got off to a winning start but was humbled by the Patriots in the following game. So, they are looking to return to winning ways.
Pittsburgh’s offense has struggled with consistency. The offensive line needs work, and the receivers must hold onto the ball better. But that being said, the defense has been solid. TJ Watt is off to a hot start. Watt has 8 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 pass deflection, 1 interception, and 1 touchdown (the same amount as the Steelers offense).
Burrow knows Watt and the Steelers defense can operate at a very high level on their day. Watt and Burrow have competed against each other six times. Watt recorded 5.5 sacks of Burrow in those meetings and leads the NFL in quarterback hits (248) since 2017.
You have to be aware of it for sure. It’s hard to do that as a quarterback, to be aware of batted balls at the line of scrimmage. If you’re too aware of it, I think that gets you into a little more negative than positive. So, you try to minimize his chances to do that.

Burrow has played the Steelers seven times. He has a 4-3 record. He has completed 68.6% of his passes for 1854 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Burrow last played the Steelers on 4th January, 2025. He threw 37 completions for 277 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. The Bengals won 19-17.
