Jon Rahm is set to leave LIV Golf. As per reports, his lawyers claimed that he found the new terms of the league “unacceptable” and has decided not to participate any further.

There had been a lot of speculation regarding Rahm’s future after LIV Golf lost its financial support from the Public Investment Fund (PIF) earlier this year. In August, a report from The Telegraph said there was fear among the officials of LIV Golf that the Spaniard could be on his way out.

Before this report, CEO Scott O’Neil had issued a statement regarding the future of the league. He revealed that the league had found a new lead investor and announced a new era, LIV Golf 2.0, where players will be majority equity holders.

In September, the breakaway tour filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. As per the documents, the 2-time major champion was the largest unsecured creditor and owed around $7.5 million.

In a hearing in New Jersey on Wednesday regarding the Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Rahm’s lawyer John Beck claimed that his client had reviewed the proposed terms of LIV Golf 2.0 and found them “unacceptable.” He thus does not want to participate any further.

Rahm has independently reviewed the proposed terms of LIV 2.0, as the parties have been referring to it, and has determined that those terms are unacceptable as to him, and he will not be participating going forward in LIV 2.0.

Jon Rahm’s lawyer John Deck said as per David Rumsey of Front Office Sports

Rahm, obviously, is one of the biggest names on LIV Golf. After turning down their initial offers, he stunned the world in December 2023 by joining the-then PIF backed tour on a deal reported to be between $300 million and $600 million.

He was the reigning Masters champion when he made the jump from the PGA Tour. Since then, he has won the LIV Golf Individual Championship in 3 successive seasons and has been one of their most successful players.

However, he has struggled a bit in the majors. While he did finish T2 at the PGA Championship this year, he had a tough outing in the other 3 majors. He finished T38 at the Masters, T46 at the Open Championship, and missed the cut at the U.S. Open.

Before this huge news regarding Rahm, there was another major update. Fellow Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia’s contract was terminated. This allows the 2017 Masters Champion to depart the league and pursue other opportunities.

With the development regarding Rahm, lawyers for other players, including Bryson DeChambeau, have started to seek clarity on whether Garcia’s termination could serve as a precedent for other golfers who are looking to explore other playing opportunities as well.

Anthony Kim sends message to Jon Rahm after he decides to leave LIV Golf

Jon Rahm‘s LIV Golf career seems to be coming to an end. The golfer has decided not to participate in future events after reviewing the terms. Following this, Anthony Kim sent him a message.

Kim is one of the biggest beneficiaries of LIV Golf. Following a 12-year hiatus from golf, he returned in 2024. Former LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman played an important role in bringing him back to the sport.

Earlier this year, he completed his comeback story with a stunning win at the Adelaide event. He took down Rahm and DeChambeau to win his first professional event since the 2010 Houston Open.

While taking to this X account, the 41-year-old lauded the former World No.1 and claimed it was good for him to make a decision that would help his family.

Good 4 @JonRahmOfficial 4 makin watever decision he thinks is best 4 him and his family. Great competitor better guy.

The major question now is: where will Rahm play now? A direct return to the PGA Tour could be complicated. He also had a chance to return to them earlier this year through the Returning Member Program, but he turned that down.

He does have a DP World Tour membership. He could thus play full-time there and find a path to re-earn a place back on the PGA Tour. Only time will tell what will happen next.
