On Tuesday, LIV Golf officially filed for bankruptcy. The breakaway tour announced that it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New Jersey. Golf analyst Brandel Chamblee later took to social media to unload on Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm, and Bryson DeChambeau.
Rumors of LIV Golf filing for bankruptcy have been circulating ever since the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia withdrew its financial support. Last week, reports from The Financial Times said that the league would soon file for bankruptcy protection.
According to the bankruptcy filing, LIV Golf has estimated assets between $100 million and $500 million and between $500 million and $1billion in estimated liabilities. In this, Rahm and DeChambeau are listed as the top two unsecured creditors.

The two golfers have become the face of the league in recent years. DeChambeau was one of the top names that left the PGA Tour in 2022 in a deal reported to be worth more than $125 million.
Meanwhile, Rahm joined the league in December 2023. The Spaniard reportedly signed a deal between $300 million and $600 million and became one of the biggest acquisitions of LIV Golf.
As per the documents, Rahm is owed around $7.5 million. DeChambeau sits second on the list with $5.7 million. Brooks Koepka, who left the league in December 2025, is owed $1.7 million.

As LIV Golf prepares for a new era in 2027 and emerge from this bankruptcy with BC Partners as their lead investor, Brandel Chamblee once again took a shot at them. The golf analyst pointed fingers at former CEO Greg Norman, Phil Mickelson, along with Rahm and DeChambeau, and blamed them for the damage to professional golf.
Who is to blame for the damage done to professional golf? Not the Saudi government … but those who were essential in getting LIV off the ground and setting the cataclysmic events … those who benefitted most from this destruction: Greg Norman, Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau followed by EVERY player that took the money and inso doing became a puppet for a regime.
Brandel Chamblee said regarding LIV Golf on X
So a government fund ( Saudi/ PIF) which has virtually unlimited resources defaults on its commitments to fund LIV, a professional golf tour that, if you believed them, was meant to grow the game globally.

As I said at the beginnings of this ill conceived attempt to clean up…
Ever since LIV Golf’s establishment, Chamblee has been a huge critic of them. Many times, he has slammed the league for its ties with the Saudis and called out the golfers.
Amid bankruptcy, LIV Golf announces new plans for the future
LIV Golf is going through a tough phase at the moment. After the league announced filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it announced some new plans for the future.

In the 2027 season, LIV Golf will be rebranded as LIV Golf 2.0 and feature 10 events (5 team majors and 5 team signatures). In a letter to the fans on Tuesday, the tour revealed its intention to expand its field to 75 players.
One big change they intend to implement is to feature a cut. While they adapted to the 72-hole format this year, they were still playing with no-cut rules. If a cut is implemented in 2027, this would be a massive change for them. Apart from that, the league will also work on having teams that embrace national identities.

The next phase of LIV Golf will be built around a sustainable business model and deeper alignment between players and the League, with team golf at its core. Players will have the opportunity to share directly in the value they help… pic.twitter.com/On4YfdMgRg
The big question is: which top names will they have for next season? There have been talks about Rahm leaving the league and returning to the DP World Tour. Meanwhile, DeChambeau’s contract with the league is up for renewal. Only time will tell what happens next with LIV Golf.
