Jerry Jones Sides With Driver Over Dak Prescott ‘Embarrassing’ Spat: “I’m For Our Fans Expressing Themselves”

A loss to a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team helmed by an undrafted quarterback is embarrassing in itself. But when a fan expressed that emotion, it led to an unwanted situation involving quarterback Dak Prescott. Naturally, owner Jerry Jones will also be drawn into this discourse.
‘America’s Team’ could not get their offense going, with their starting QB struggling to get anything meaningful going in the first three quarters. In fact, if not for Javonte Williams‘ opening-drive touchdown, the Cowboys could have entered the fourth quarter with just three points.
Punts dominated the second quarter. But what baffled fans was how they could not get anything going despite possessing what was one of the league’s best offenses last season.
Then, in the fourth quarter, Dak Prescott’s second interception sealed their fate. That is probably what led that driver to label the Cowboys’ outing as ’embarrassing.’ When Jerry Jones was asked about that incident while on 105.3 The FAN, he said:
Fans can express themselves, and should express themselves. Whether he was our employee or not, he was a fan, it sounds like. So, I’m for our fans expressing themselves.
Jerry Jones replied
With this answer, the billionaire effectively undermined his signal passer by siding with the driver, who Jones believes was speaking just as a fan would. The performance was embarrassing, which is why the just-turned-84-year-old did not have a problem with it.
@rjchoppy and @BobbyBeltTX asked Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones about the postgame interaction with Dak Prescott and a driver/fan: “Fans can express themselves, and should express themselves. Whether he was our employee or not, he was a fan, it sounds like. So, I’m for our fans expressing themselves.”

Ironically, Prescott made a big issue out of it and called out the driver/fan for not having the guts to say it to his face when he gave him a long ‘death stare.’
Jerry Jones brings in additional help for struggling defense
Apart from the discourse surrounding a fan, what has stood out this season is that Jerry Jones’ retooled defense has not panned out the way he hoped. Bringing in Christian Parker from the Philadelphia Eagles to coach the unit has not borne fruit.
All those offseason moves have added to the pressure, as the unit has struggled to contain a no-name offense this past weekend. Now, Jones has this to say when asked to sum up what he feels about the defense.
I know what we’ve put into it… and I have a lot of confidence that we’re going in that direction in the right way… I’m obviously disappointed in our results so far… We just added Mike Pettine to our staff. That was something we would have done had we had the opportunity earlier, and he’ll be a good addition.
Jones replied
Jones mentioned that Mike Pettine would work together with Parker. That indicates that the new hiring was not going to replace the current defensive coordinator.
Jerry Jones on @rjchoppy and @BobbyBeltTX on the state of the defense: "I’m obviously disappointed in our results so far. … I know what we’ve put into it… and I have a lot of confidence that we’re going in the right direction. … We just added Mike Pettine to our staff. That was something we would have done had we had the opportunity earlier…"

However, if the situation does not improve, Christian Parker could find himself being forced by Jerry Jones to hand over playcalling duties to Pettine, who has a lot of experience doing so.
Cowboys’ Super Bowl hopes pin on offense and defense improving
While Mike Pettine’s experience could be a major boost for a young coordinator like Christian Parker, it pushes the narrative that maybe the retooled defense is too much to handle.

Any coordinator prefers to start with a unit and build it up over time. But getting new faces all of a sudden could overwhelm anyone. However, Parker does not have much time with five games already over.
The next four games are against inconsistent offenses, which will be a good chance for Parker to shore up his unit and instill whatever he wants them to do.
The offense will be in a similar situation, as these next four games do not pose as big a threat as they would. Hence, Dak Prescott must use that fan’s opinion as motivation and get his teammates back to where they were last season.
If the Cowboys do not improve within the next four games, expect Jerry Jones to hit the panic button and bring in changes. Otherwise, this team is going to waste another season.
