Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum played alongside each other for nearly a decade for the Boston Celtics. The Celtics drafted both players, and they grew from rookies into the superstars they are today.

During their time together, they became one of the league’s most fearsome duos. They reached the Eastern Conference Finals five times in nine years, including in their first postseason together in 2017.

They also led the Celtics to their first championship in 16 years in 2024, with Brown named Finals MVP. While many assumed that they share a good relationship off the court after all these years, recent events suggest otherwise.

Following Brown’s trade to the Philadelphia 76ers in the summer, there have been reports that the two superstars do not get along anymore. While Tatum has downplayed any animosity between the two, Brown’s actions and words have only added to the speculation.

The former Finals MVP reignited speculation when he responded to a video featuring Tatum discussing his reaction to Boston’s blockbuster July trade. In the video, Tatum revealed that he was caught off guard just like everyone else when he heard the news. However, Brown comment under the post left everyone scratching their heads.

While Tatum insisted that there is no beef between them, Brown agreed there was no serious feud but couldn’t resist taking a subtle jab at his former teammate.

I saw that he said it’s no beef, and I think he’s right. We accomplished some great things; he’s a hell of a basketball player, he’s got a great PR team. There’s no beef, but it might be a little lamb chops and some gravy. He should stay ready at all times.

Considering Brown desired to stay in Boston for another 10 years, it appears that he is still not over the fact that the organization he loved decided to trade him. After all, he was coming off his best individual campaign where he finished sixth in the MVP race and led his team to the playoffs despite Tatum missing the majority of the season.

Jaylen Brown’s praise for Jayson Tatum’s PR added another layer to their beef

Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum will go down as one of the most iconic duos in Celtics history. They dominated the Eastern Conference and were legitimate championship contenders whenever they were fit and healthy.

However, many asked who the team belonged to. Tatum was often portrayed as the team’s leader. But things seemed to have changed after their championship run two years ago.

Brown winning the Finals MVP and leading the Celtics from the front in Tatum’s absence last season had many viewing him as the leader of the team. Unfortunately for him, the Celtics front office saw Tatum as their franchise superstar and built their future around him.

Tatum was criticized by many for allowing the trade to happen despite claiming to have no prior information about it. However, it seems that even Brown does not buy Tatum’s claims. While Brown echoed Tatum’s claim that there’s no beef between them, his praise for Tatum’s public relations team added another layer to an increasingly awkward exchange.

Blake Griffin on the Jayson Tatum-Jaylen Brown drama

It is unfortunate to see the drama between Jaylen Brown and Tatum unfold the way it has. It felt like the two were extremely close during their stint together, but instead of talking about their achievements, it has come down to this.

Blake Griffin, who spent a season with the two in Boston, weighed in on the drama between the two superstars.

I just feel a little bit disappointed, and I think watching that clip and hearing Jayson talk, you can hear the disappointment in his voice. Being their teammate, being inside the locker room, I know JT cares about him. Both of them should keep in perspective what they’ve accomplished and not be short-sighted about what has happened over the offseason. Their relationship is special.

Tatum revealed that he is open to having a conversation to clear out any misunderstandings. It may be needed if they are to sort out their differences, as Brown’s latest comments suggest there are some unresolved feelings on his side.
