AJ Styles has taken cognizance of Chad Gable‘s momentum on the back of his Mask vs. Mask showdown with El Grande Americano at AAA Noche de Los Grandes on May 30. Gable, under the guise of the Original El Grande Americano, came up short in a match that received a 5.75-star rating from veteran wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer.

It consequently became the highest-rated match under the WWE umbrella to date. With the demise of his pretense of a luchador, Gable reverted back to being himself on SmackDown this past Friday. The former Alpha Academy leader received a monstrous pop when the backstage cameras panned to him.

Gable had a brief staredown with Sami Zayn before heading into Nick Aldis‘ cabin. It led several fans believing that the former US Olympian might be plying his trade on SmackDown moving forward. As mentioned above, AJ Styles is no stranger to Gable being red-hot among the fans and even said that the former Shorty G is a bigger superstar at this point in time than he’s ever been.

Styles expanded on his Phenomenally Retro podcast that WWE would be dumb to not capitalize on him. ‘The Face That Runs the Place’ also stressed that Chad Gable could become a world champion in WWE. AJ fondly talked about the amateur wrestling background of the 40-year-old Minnesotan and couldn’t be more impressed with Gable’s physique and the skill set that he possessed.

“This guy can take care of business,” said the WWE Hall of Famer. In a pleasant surprise to many fans, Gable was actually made to show his character progression on SmackDown. The former one-half of the American Alpha confronted Rey Fenix backstage and tendered a sincere apology for mocking the Lucha Libre tradition throughout his portrayal of the OG El Grande Americano.

AJ Styles reveals his issue with Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi at Clash in Italy; backs Sol Ruca after IC title win

In an excerpt from AJ Styles’ aforementioned episode of his podcast, the retired wrestler revealed something from the Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi match at Clash in Italy that bothered him. Styles was confused by Lesnar sending Femi through the commentary table, especially when they were having a regular match without a stipulation tied to it.

Styles thought it should’ve been saved for the tribal combat pitting Roman Reigns against Jacob Fatu, as the match type basically warranted some brutality. The majority of the fans didn’t agree with AJ’s assessment of the situation, as they argued Lesnar hitting Femi with an F-5 through the table contributed to the fact that ‘The Beast’ had to make sure he left no stone unturned to put Femi down.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Styles shed some light on Sol Ruca stunning Becky Lynch to win the women’s Intercontinental Championship at Clash in Italy. AJ Styles said it was the right call to make. ‘The Georgia Pitbull’ couldn’t understand why WWE made Lynch the champion in the first place upon realizing that ‘The Man’ held the title for merely 43 days.

While he didn’t get the logic behind it, ‘Mr. TNA’ backed Ruca as the ideal successor to the ‘Big Time Becks’ for having a championship run. The recent NXT call-up will make her first televised IC title defense this Monday on Raw against Lyra Valkyria. The fans are hoping that WWE continues treating the women’s IC title with the purpose of showcasing underutilized talent.
