- Ana Ivanovic believes Djokovic still has a chance to win another Grand Slam before retiring.
- Djokovic withdrew from the Madrid Open due to physical problems but is ready to play at Roland Garros.
Novak Djokovic is not competing at the moment. He, in fact, was last seen in action in the fourth round of the Indian Wells Masters, losing the match to defending champion Jack Draper.
Before Indian Wells, Nole played in the final of the Australian Open. It was his first Grand Slam final since the 2024 Wimbledon, where Carlos Alcaraz denied him the title. This time as well, even though Djokovic upset two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner in the semifinal in five sets, he failed to go past Alcaraz, who became the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam.
Does Djokovic still have it in him to win his 25th Grand Slam title? His Australian Open run only showed that his rivals need to be wary of him in the Majors. His friend, former WTA ace Ana Ivanovic, during her interview with Eurosport Spain, was asked whether she thinks the 38-year-old can win one more Major before calling time on his career.
What he’s achieved is truly incredible. We’ve known each other since we were very, very young, and we’ve been friends for a long time. It’s very inspiring to see him give so much back to Serbia and to the next generation. And I definitely think he has a chance to win another Grand Slam. His level of play is still very high. He can compete with the best.
The last time Djokovic won a Major was at the 2023 US Open. Since then, he has played two Grand Slam finals, at the 2024 Wimbledon and this year’s Australian Open.
And if you look at the Grand Slams, in most of them, he reaches the semifinals and finals. So, you know, he’s one step closer to the title. But it’s an incredible career, and I don’t think it will be easy to match.
Ana Ivanovic added
Djokovic wanted to play in Madrid, but he withdrew due to physical problems. It’s uncertain where the Serbian legend will play next, and in a recent interview, he said he is ready to play at Roland Garros without any match practice on clay. Last year on the clay swing, Djokovic defeated Hubert Hurkacz in the Geneva Open final and also ended his title drought.
Ana Ivanovic picks the favorites for the Madrid Open
The women’s semifinals at the Madrid Open concluded on April 30 and saw Mirra Andreeva and Marta Kostyuk reach the final. Andreeva defeated Hailey Baptiste, who stunned defending champion Aryna Sabalenka. Kostyuk defeated Anastasia Potapova.

On the men’s side, Sinner will be locking horns with Arthur Fils in the semifinals. In the second semifinal, Alexander Blockx will clash with Alexander Zverev. Ana Ivanovic, during her aforementioned interview with Eurosport Spain, was asked who she thinks are the favorites to win the Madrid Open.
Well, if we’re talking about men, I’d definitely say Sinner. And in the women’s draw, of course, now that Sabalenka and [Elena] Rybakina are out, I’d probably give Mirra Andreeva a chance because I like her style of play and I think it suits her well.
Andreeva is chasing her third title of the season after wins in Adelaide and Linz. Sinner is chasing his fourth consecutive title of the season following his wins in Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte Carlo.
The 24-year-old, in fact, is chasing history in Madrid, as winning the tournament will make him the first man to win the first four Masters 1000 of the season. He has already become the second man, after Novak Djokovic, to win the first three Masters 1000 of the season. Sinner, who will be playing in the Madrid Open semifinal for the first time in his career, holds a 1-0 head-to-head record over Fils.
