- Dianna Russini resigned from The Athletic amid controversy over her alleged affair with NFL coach Mike Vrabel.
- An NFL analyst criticized Russini's reported rescue of an elderly man and his dog, claiming it was exaggerated.
- Russini deleted her Twitter account shortly after resigning, following scrutiny over her personal life and professional conduct.
Four days after Dianna Russini resigned from The Athletic, the longtime NFL insider reportedly saved an elderly man and his dog who were stuck inside a crashed Jeep. However, an NFL analyst challenged the report by claiming that it spread sensationalized information to make Russini look like a hero after she was busted for being involved in an extramarital affair with the New England Patriots head coach, Mike Vrabel.
Russini, while heading back to her home, encountered an elderly man and his canine stuck inside a Jeep that had flipped to its side following a crash. Eyewitnesses told Page Six that a tall man lifted Russini on top of the car, and she helped the two escape from the vehicle.
However, Tony Farmer, a contributor to 49ers Talk and host of LastMenPod, questioned the entire rescue story after studying the photos of the crashed Jeep. Farmer noted that there was no need for Russini to climb onto the side of the vehicle because the photos clearly showed the existence of a sunroof on the ceiling from which the trapped could have easily escaped.
Another 49ers reporter, Dontay Atkinson, shared his thoughts on Farmer’s findings.
Diana Russini is in the middle of an F5 tornado of B.S. and subterfuge. That tornado has pulled Mike Vrabel, ESPN, a dozen other reporters, several farm animals, a tractor, seven mobile homes, and all of the NFL’s patio furniture into the vortex. What in the world is this now? A fake Jeep rescue story designed to rebuild her public persona?
Atkinson tweeted

Farmer reached out to a couple of Page Six employees who could/might have worked on the Russini news. However, they have yet to issue a reply.
I made 2 @PageSix employees including @OliJColeman aware that I was dropping a story tomorrow that contradicted their reporting of the Russini “rescue”

Russini, meanwhile, deleted her Twitter account after resigning from her job at The Athletic.
Tony Farmer speculates the reason why Dianna Russini deleted her Twitter account
Russini joined The Athletic in 2023 after spending a decade with ESPN as a reporter and host. She worked as The Athletic’s primary league insider. She was dropping daily news about the AJ Brown trade, linking the Eagles wide receiver with a summer move to Vrabel’s Patriots.

On April 9, the New York Post published her infamous photos, after that, Russini went AWOL. Videos of Russini playfully badmouthing her husband of five years flocked to nearly every platform. The Athletic suspended her from doing her work while they investigated the allegations. Even before the investigation came to an end, she resigned and walked away.
A few days later, online conspiracy theorists made a wild connection between Russini’s second-born, Michael Andrew, and a post she had written on Twitter in 2022. Around the same time, she was allegedly photographed kissing Vrabel at a bar in New York. Shortly after the tweet resurfaced, Russini’s account was no longer available on the platform.
We don’t know why Dianna Russini deleted her X account but we know when she did. The “when” can give us clues to the “why”

Vrabel, in the meantime, took responsibility for his actions. To make amends, the 50-year-old checked into therapy, which caused him to miss the final day of the 2026 NFL Draft. Later, he was, again allegedly, seen buying apology gifts for his wife, Jennifer.
