Bahrain Testing: Carlos Sainz makes sure that it’s smooth sailing for Ferrari with his phenomenal performance on Day two
Carlos Sainz at Bahrain on Day Two of Testing at Bahrain
Ferrari has been very firm with the fact that this season they’re looking forward to going back to old winning ways instead of struggling to score wins and podiums. What is to note is that Ferrari is already looking super ready ahead of the first Grand Prix of the season this month in the Bahrain International Circuit. Apart from showing astounding tenacity in the first phase of testing at Barcelona last month, they have been very consistent with their pace in Bahrain too for the second phase of testing.
Carlos Sainz who had ranked second on the leaderboard on Day One of testing has topped the timesheet today with teammate Charles Leclerc in the sixth position. Sainz proved today that he could tough it out in front of the likes of drivers like Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen. Sainz also outdid the leader of yesterday’s timesheet, Pierre Gasly by nearly a second.
Alpine’s Esteban Ocon brought out the red flag due to a stoppage in the afternoon. He finished the day at P5, sandwiched between 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and Sainz’s teammate Charles Leclerc
More derivations from Day Two of Testing at Bahrain
McLaren who seem pretty disheartened with Daniel Ricciardo sitting it out even on Day Two of Testing, faced severe braking issues today as well with sole driver Lando Norris being ranked at seventh on the leaderboard today. Norris also caused a red flag today. He did set a personal record in the first sector, but performance today was overall pretty underwhelming.
Williams Racing’s Nicholas Latifi saw a dramatic fire which led to Williams only completing a total of 15 laps today. Recent Haas returnee Kevin Magnussen set a personal best record of 1m34.532s. Haas was also presented with the golden opportunity to have the track all to themselves for an extra hour due to Haas’ time lost because of freight delays.
Haas however had to stop due to a serious issue with the exhaust. Alfa Romeo similarly faced technical issues and couldn’t really make a statement on the tracks today. Tomorrow marks the final day of pre-season testing ahead of the commencement of the 2022 F1 season.
