The moment LeBron James announced he was joining the Philadelphia 76ers, the barbarians were out in force to criticize the move and label it ‘ring-chasing’ or ‘cheating’ his way to a championship.

They felt that had the King returned home to Cleveland, it would have been a fitting end to his illustrious career. Had he helped the Cavaliers win another championship during that stint, his legacy might have gotten a major boost.

Others felt that rejoining the Miami Heat was also a better option, considering that both Pat Riley and several fans believe that James has unfinished business with the franchise. But Bob Myers believes that choosing the Sixers was the hardest path.

If you ever questioned the motivations of LeBron, he chose the hardest path, I think… He chose the one, there’s only one reason, it’s to win… The expectations are going to be different now, and he welcomed that by making the decision he made. So by hard, I guess that’s what I mean.

Bob Myers said

The moment the four-time championship-winning GM claimed that joining the 76ers was the hardest decision for James, both hosts of Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady, were surprised by that opinion.

Myers detailed how joining an unfamiliar environment in itself makes it difficult. It is not something the league’s oldest player would want. Then add the fact that the pressure to win a championship will be the highest with this team adds another dimension.

The President of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment agreed that joining the 76ers gives LeBron James the best chance to win the championship. But that in itself makes it that much more uncomfortable, knowing the world will go after him if he does not succeed.

Bob Myers details how the 76ers managed to get Jaylen Brown

Before arriving at the discussion surrounding LeBron James’ arrival, Bob Myers was asked how the Philadelphia 76ers came about pursuing Jaylen Brown.

It was not like we lost the Knicks and we’re going to go get Jaylen Brown. Like, that’s not what happened… When Brad Stevens responded with, ‘What are you offering?’ Then you knew that there was a shot.

Bob Myers replied

The 51-year-old detailed how there are quite a few executives who lie their way to gain an advantage. But when dealing with Brad Stevens, Myers and his team of top Sixers executives knew that the Celtics GM might not take advantage of those discussions.

The former UCLA forward then added that their recruiting pitch around Jaylen Brown was all about bringing his leadership to the 76ers. That may have been the reason the Celtics wanted to let him go, but it seems his new team embraced it from the get-go.

LeBron James and Jaylen Brown might be cut from the same cloth

While detailing why the Philadelphia 76ers are expecting Jaylen Brown to lead, Bob Myers said that the 2024 Finals MVP has faced flak for speaking what is on his mind.

That may have gotten him into trouble, but his new team is embracing that side of him. Only then do Myers and Tracy McGrady believe that the California Golden Bear can play at his peak.

Myers added that LeBron James is essentially cut from the same cloth, as he has been criticized in the past for speaking his mind. Therefore, adding the four-time league MVP to the mix, along with Brown, was something that was too tantalizing to pass up.

These revelations point to the possibility of the 76ers allowing their players to be themselves. With the arrival of James already heightening attention on the city, expect fireworks whenever the team is being talked about.
