Both LeBron James and Jaylen Brown have grabbed the headlines in the offseason. They are coming off impressive 2025-26 campaigns, with Brown posting career-best numbers and James continuing to defy Father Time in a record-breaking 23rd season.

After failing to trade Brown for Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Boston Celtics did not waste any time in trading him to the Philadelphia 76ers. The move will see Brown switch teams for the first time since being drafted by the Celtics as the number three pick in the 2016 NBA draft.

The former Finals MVP was seen in popular YouTuber IShowSpeed‘s live stream during the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals between France and Morocco. Brown took the opportunity to use Speed to help him recruit James. Speed enthusiastically delivered the message:

You gotta tell LeBron he gotta pull up, man. Pull up to Philly…LeBron, pull up to Philly. Think about it. LeBron, Jaylen Brown, PG13.

Brown reacted with a laugh:

He’s gone. He’s gone, bro.

The funny interaction between Jaylen Brown and Speed went viral in no time. Brown laughed because Paul George was included in the trade for Brown, which sent him to Boston.

Meanwhile, LeBron James is testing free agency for the first time since 2018. After an impressive 2025-26 campaign where he led the Los Angeles Lakers to the Western Conference Semifinals, multiple contenders have shown interest in James, including the 76ers.

76ers President Bob Myers made his pitch to James’ agent, Rich Paul, when he made an appearance on Paul’s podcast, Game Over. Hence, it looks like Brown is doing his bit as well in trying to get James back to the Eastern Conference.

Can Jaylen Brown and LeBron James turn the 76ers into title contenders?

Both players are at very different points in their careers. Brown is in the prime of his career and came sixth in the MVP race last season. Meanwhile, James has achieved everything in the game but still desires to compete for a championship at this stage of his career.

The 76ers are coming off an Eastern Conference Semifinals finish last season. After pulling off a 3-1 comeback against the Celtics in the first round, the 76ers were clean-swept by eventual champions the New York Knicks in the next round.

Hence, it is not surprising that the 76ers have been active in the market this year. With Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, the 76ers have a dominant center and a dynamic point guard. They struck gold when they traded for Brown without losing too much.

However, there have been reports that James is seriously considering joining the 76ers after they traded for the former Celtics star. A team of Embiid, Maxey, Brown, and James would be huge contenders to come out of the East and even win it all. Only health could stop a star-studded squad like that.

Kevin Garnett was not happy with the Celtics trading Jaylen Brown to the 76ers

It is surprising that the Celtics were so quick to trade Brown to a rival team after failing to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo. Brown spent nine years in Boston and led them to two NBA Finals and helped them win the championship in 2024, where he was named the Finals MVP.

Former Celtics star and champion Kevin Garnett was left disappointed after Brown was traded to the 76ers.

I didn’t think there was a cause for him to be moved. The 76ers got better… ‘We gonna see y’all 4 times a year.’ To trade somebody in conference?… I wanted Jaylen Brown to retire as a Celtic.

The Celtics decided to prioritize Jayson Tatum over Brown, as they had to pay Brown some big money heading forward. It was an unceremonious ending as Brown loved playing for Boston and wished to play for them for the next 10 years. It remains to be seen if the 76ers manage to sign James in the offseason.
