Canelo Alvarez is the current face of boxing. He nabbed the top five position among the highest-paid athletes of 2022. Recently, Canelo defeated John Ryder to defend his title. Irish superstar Conor McGregor indicated his desire to compete against the Mexican champion. McGregor feels confident about a game plan to take on Canelo. However, the Mexican champion fired shots at wanting to challenge him.
Boxing analyst and reporter Michael Benson tweeted what Canelo Alvarez had to talk about the McGregor call-out. Benson wrote, “Canelo Alvarez on Conor McGregor calling him out: “I’d beat him with one hand,” on Twitter. Alvarez did not appreciate the call-out of the Irishman and went scorched earth on McGregor.
Canelo believes that McGregor’s skill set is not suited to the sport of boxing, let alone challenge the Mexican inside the boxing ring. Conor McGregor fought Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match in 2017. However, Mayweather got a TKO stoppage in the tenth round. Since then, McGregor has not competed in the sport of boxing. Nevertheless, he continues to call out top boxing superstars for a fight.
On the other hand, Alvarez wants to rematch Dmitry Bivol to exact revenge on the Russian boxer. Bivol defeated Alvarez last year. Canelo blamed the loss on an injured hand for which he needed surgery. He had surgery in Los Angeles and recovered from the injury this year. Canelo defeated Ryder in his recent boxing match and revealed his desire to fight Bivol again.

David Benavidez wants to compete against Canelo Alvarez
Undefeated boxer David Benavidez and his team indicated a desire to fight the Mexican boxing champion. It is an intriguing matchup, as Benavidez has Mexican ancestry. A Mexican vs. Mexican Fight in Mexico can be an iconic event for boxing fans.
Boxing analyst Michael Benson wrote, “David Benavidez’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz has declared that they will be sending Canelo Alvarez an official offer next week for a fight in September, following a meeting with his trainer/manager Eddy Reynoso today alongside Luis DeCubas (who works closely with Al Haymon).“
Benavidez defeated former champion Caleb Plant this year. If a Canelo vs. Bivol fight does not materialize, Benavidez remains the ideal contender for Canelo’s next fight. Only time will tell if Canelo and Benavidez can put on an iconic performance in Mexico.
