“Hulu did PAY him,” Chael Sonnen dismisses Mike Tyson’s claim of being exploited by OTT platform by stealing his life story in a rhetorical tweet

Chael Sonnen- Mike Tyson

Apart from reel life, Chael Sonnen likes to be a Bad Guy in real life as well, end of the debate, even if it means having an unpopular opinion that lands him being one. Sonnen, a retired MMA fighter, is now a Youtuber with over a million subscribers, a commentator for Eagle FC and a sports analyst for ESPN MMA. Sonnen recently came out to talk about the infamous intellectual property dispute between boxing icon Mike Tyson and Walt Disney Company’s Hulu.

Tyson has claimed in multiple tweets that he has never been paid by Hulu, an OTT platform that recently released a movie based on Tyson’s life and is thus exploiting him. Many people from the UFC including UFC President Dana White and UFC megastar Nate Diaz have come out in support of Tyson. What more is that Tyson has subtly called this incident symbolic of the system of slavery that was openly practised over men of colour before the Civil war.

In a series of tweets, Chael Sonnen first puts out “The Mike Tyson story on Hulu is awesome. I recommend you check it out. The response to the tweet by the fans was all about showing Sonnen how much Tyson hates Hulu and what the entertainment platform did to him from his side of the story. Sonnen then responds to the fans in a separate tweet and says, “Fake news. @hulu Did pay for the Mike Tyson piece. They paid me to put out this tweet. Now go watch it, it’s awesome.”

In a tweet that is now deleted by a fan, Sonnen quoted that tweet and said “I saw Mike at breakfast this morning. I covered his eggs and bacon, so don’t walk around like he wasn’t given anything.”

What do you make of these tweets put out by Sonnen? Do you think Hulu really paid Sonnen to compliment the platform’s movie on Tyson’s life? OR is Sonnen trying to pull humour out of the situation? Do you think Hulu has breached the ethics of Intellectual Property Rights by the acts Tyson has claimed? Have you watched the film? What do you think about it? Where do you put Sonnen amongst the greatest trash talkers in MMA history? Where do you put Tyson amongst the most furious and intimidating boxers of all time?
