“That was disrespectful” – Fans react to Caleb Plant’s controversial celebration after VICIOUS knockout win
Caleb Plant's celebration
Caleb Plant returned to the boxing ring after almost a year out. On his comeback, he made it a point to make a statement.
Caleb Plant last featured inside the ring in November last year, where he was comfortably stopped by Canelo Alvarez in the 11th round. Before the bout, Plant boasted of a perfect 21-0 record.
A lot was said between Anthony Dirrell and Caleb Plant before heading into their fight last night, in Brooklyn. In the lead up to the bout, Dirrell and Plant had exchanged a lot of words, both at the presser and then at the weigh-ins.
However, Plant made it a point to respond to all the trash talk from Dirrell. He set up an exquisite left hand strike in the ninth round, to send Dirrell flying to the canvas. Dirrell was in the process of landing his own strike when the jab hit him clean in the jaw. In the aftermath of the KO, Dirrell required medical attention.
However, it is his post-fight antics that caught the attention of fans and had them flooding Twitter to comment on it. Immediately after the KO, Dirrell lay helpless on the floor, while Plant pretended to grab a shovel and throw dirt on him, signifying a burial.
Funnily enough, this celebration is eerily similar to UFC veteran Tito Ortiz’s own celebration.

Boxing fans not content with Caleb Plant’s lack of respect after KO of Anthony Dirrell
While a case can be made for Caleb Plant’s anger, given the fact that Anthony Dirrell had verbally attacked him heading into the fight, there is no doubt that the actions were in bad faith. Whatever the case, fight fans were quick to react to the incident.
Interestingly, there were some fans who chose to side with Plant. Here are some of the best reactions to the controversial celebration.
That was disrespectful…Mr. Plant now needs to fight David Benavidez, not a 37 year old fighter on the downslide…if he does, he will get stopped, without the dumb antics he showed.

While boxing fans are torn over Caleb Plant’s actions, the nature of his superlative jab to finish Anthony Dirrell off remains unquestionable.
