Brandon Aiyuk is becoming desperate. The veteran wide receiver is leaving no stone unturned to force a move to the Washington Commanders.
On Wednesday, Aiyuk uploaded a video that shows a football with the Commanders logo. At the bottom right of the screen, he wrote a message aimed at the San Francisco 49ers.
The best sport in the world. The best league in the world, [and] the best team in the world [Washington Commanders].

The 49ers drafted Aiyuk 25th overall in 2020. In 2023, he registered 1342 yards and 7 touchdowns on 75 receptions, earning a four-year contract extension worth $120 million.
In the ensuing season, he played seven games before suffering a long-term ACL tear. The 49ers placed him on the injured reserve list. More than nine months into his rehab, Aiyuk began showing signs of rebelling against the franchise. He refused to attend the offseason training camp and missed the entire 2025 season. As punishment, the Niners voided his remaining guaranteed money.
Brandon Aiyuk wants to play for the Commanders
Aiyuk’s story is slowly turning into a cliché. Football fans have seen receivers throwing tantrums numerous times in the past. Some accomplish their endeavor, while others cave in and continue with their career.

Aiyuk is bound by the contract to play for the 49ers through the 2027-28 season. But he is pushing for the franchise to either release or trade him to the Commanders.
If I’m crazy or if I’m cappin’, tell them boys cut me today, and I’ll sign with the Commanders tomorrow. We’ll see who’s cappin.

In an earlier video, he called the Niners “scared” to release him. The 49ers will no longer entertain Aiyuk. GM John Lynch made his intentions crystal clear.
[It’s] safe to say that [Aiyuk] has played his last snap with the Niner.

Even his biggest supporter, George Kittle, seems to have had enough of his shenanigans. Speaking with the crew of the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast, the All-Pro tight end explained his stance on the situation.
You guys have fun with that, I guess…You have fun with all that comes with it.

The Commanders make their position known on the Brandon Aiyuk fiasco
So far, fans know what Aiyuk wants and what the 49ers are offering, but where do the Commanders think about signing the seven-year man? According to The Athletic’s Matt Barrows and Nicki Jhabvala, the Commanders are viewed around the league as being “steadfast in their unwillingness” to work out a trade for Aiyuk.
The Niners will only let Aiyuk leave by striking a trade deal. Washington doesn’t want to give up any draft picks or tradeable assets. Moreover, Washington doesn’t have to chase him either, even though Jayden Daniels played with him in college. They boast enough offensive firepower to dominate their division, as they did a couple of years ago, when they went 12-5.
Then there’s the trust factor. Who’s to say that Aiyuk won’t throw a similar tantrum a few years down the line? If he can be unhappy despite earning $30 million per year, then it’s entirely plausible to assume that he will get bored and ask to be traded once again.
