In his latest video, WR Brandon Aiyuk wished Washington Commanders good luck for the new season.

At this point, Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers are past the point of reconciliation. Aiyuk doesn’t want to remain a part of the 49ers any longer. There’s only one team he wants to play for, which is the Washington Commanders.
After spending a joyous Father’s Day with his family, the Pro Bowl wide receiver uploaded his latest video. Through it, Aiyuk made it very clear he’s eyeing a move to the Commanders at the earliest.
Before I lay down and go to bed tonight, I just wanted to say, go Commanders! Go Commanders, man. Go Commanders! Raise hell! Take command!

The 49ers are well aware of Aiyuk’s messages. Previously, he called the franchise “mad” and “stupid” for refusing to trade him to the Commanders.
They mad because they stupid… They mad because they paid me $50 million in 8 months. And then voided my guarantees for 2027. And I’m about to be on a new team in 2026. They mad at themselves.
Aiyuk had said
Aiyuk accumulated 294 catches, 4305 yards, and scored 25 touchdowns in 69 games for the 49ers. Those numbers could have looked even better if he hadn’t skipped the 2025 season. After a premature end to the previous campaign due to an ACL tear, he entered rehab and didn’t return to the facility. He would occasionally zoom past the Levi’s Stadium, without bothering to stop by for a small chat.
49ers insider speculates about Brandon Aiyuk’s future
Shortly after Aiyuk uploaded his video on social media, 49ers beat writer for Sports Illustrated, Grant Cohn, broke down what he believes will happen to Aiyuk in the near future. Cohn speculated that Aiyuk knows something that others don’t. Perhaps it’s only a matter of time before the Niners release him, sending his merry way to Washington.

The Niners won’t suffer a massive cap hit by cutting ties with Aiyuk. However, it will set a bad example. If one player can force his way out, others will start following in his footsteps. It’s something the clubs are trying to avoid.

Cohn also presented an alternative theory, theorizing that Aiyuk is “delusional.”
The other possibility is that [Brandon] Aiyuk is just completely delusional and yelling into the void and trying to speak something into existence, and he’s no closer to joining the Commanders than he was last week, and he still has to actually show up to the Niners and force the issue. I don’t know what’s going on, but I like it; I like that he keeps doing it.
Cohn said
Andrew Pasquini of Niners Nation poked fun at Aiyuk’s constant outcry to play for the Commanders.

Cohn respects the effort, but at the end of the day, it’s unlikely to bear any fruit. The 49ers don’t need to release him. Sure, it’s not ideal for the player, but his attitude is partly to blame for this conundrum. At the very least, they would demand a late-round draft pick if a trade were to take place.
Last year, the Commanders signed former 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel. The Commanders reportedly are already done with Samuel, as he failed to have the desired impact on the team. If Samuel leaves, then adding Aiyuk makes sense.
Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels is a former college teammate of Aiyuk. They played together for just one year before Aiyuk switched over to the NFL.
