This Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers quarterback proved football isn’t the only thing he is good at. Brock Purdy was invited for the ceremonial first pitch of San Francisco’s baseball team, the Giants against the Los Angeles Dodgers where he showcased his strong arm strength.
The star signal caller threw the first pitch a heater that pitcher Kyle Harrison couldn’t handle and the ball sailed past him, resulting in a roar by the Bay Area crowd. Very few know this but Purdy’s father, Shawn Purdy was actually a minor league pitcher for the Giants in the mid-90s and retired after eight years playing in the MLB.
If the fastball thrown by the quarterback is any proof, he seemed to have played baseball in the past. He played shortstop and second base for two years during his high school days which stands the credit for a quarterback to change arm and throw the fastball flying past the pitcher.
Apart from his magic on the field, one instance has gone viral on the internet when the reigning NFC champion made his way to the exit through the audience. He bizarrely walked past a fan wearing a Dodgers t-shirt and wanted a picture with the Niners’ star player, even though just a few seconds ago he stopped by for a picture with a Giants fan.
Unfortunately, Purdy has been receiving quite some backlash on social media as fans argued that Dodgers fan might also be a big Niners fan, but Purdy ignored him just because he wore a t-shirt to support the Giants’ opponent.
Brock Purdy set to face Aaron Rodgers in the opening week of 2024 season
As the NFL schedule for the 2024 regular season was announced today, one exciting matchup is lined up for the first week where the reigning NFC champions will be facing recently recovered Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets. It’s quite a challenge for the Jets, given they were hoping for an easier first game considering the slightly fragile condition of their offense.
But it’s one of those NFL matches that cannot be missed scheduled for Monday Night Football game. The 40-year-old Jets’ quarterback will be up against the Niners’ 24-year-old quarterback, who proved himself a key contributor to their success in the past two seasons.
This means, there’s a chance that Purdy might ruin Rodgers’ spectacular comeback after his Achilles injury in the first snap of the 2023 season which kept him out for the whole season. Additionally, the Jets have revamped their offensive line this offseason, which will be put to a test against the star-studded offense of the Niners.
