One reason the Denver Broncos defense was a sack machine in 2025 was defensive tackle Zach Allen, creating disruptions in opponents’ half nearly every snap last year. The Broncos came close to breaking the all-time sack record, held by the Chicago Bears.

Allen believes the Broncos will achieve their goal in 2026.

We came close to the sack record last year and we fully expect to break it this year.

The Broncos finished with 68 sacks in 17 games (averaged 4 sacks). Nik Bonitto led the crew with 14 sacks, followed by Jonathon Cooper with 8, John Franklin-Myers with 7.5, and Allen with 7, rounding up the top four.

The 1984 Bears, with 72 sacks, still hold the record. The Minnesota Vikings nearly broke it five years later but fell short by just one sack.

Zach Allen ranks 73rd on the 2026 NFL Top 100 list

Allen, 28, is the first Broncos player to be named in the 2026 Top 100 NFL Players list. He ranks 73rd overall.

The ranking is the highest of Allen’s career, after taking 90th overall in 2025. It’s a testament to the season Allen had last year, earning his first career first-team All-Pro honors and Pro Bowl nod as he notched 38 tackles, seven sacks, six passes defended and a league-high 47 quarterback hits.

According to the Post, Allen’s 73 quarterback pressures were the most among all interior defensive linemen. Furthermore, the former third-round draft pick is just the second player since 2006 to record at least 40 quarterback hits in back-to-back seasons, joining three-time DPOY JJ Watt.

Allen’s teammate and former DPOY corner Patrick Surtain II compared Allen’s movements to ballet.

It’s like watching ballet on grass. The moves he does, the counters, the swim moves.

The Cardinals drafted Allen in 2019. After spending four years in Arizona, Allen signed with the Broncos as a free agent during Sean Payton’s first year as the boss.

Allen has recorded 297 combined tackles, 32 sacks, 48 tackles for loss, and 23 passes defended in 95 league games.

Broncos tipped to bring back Super Bowl winner

As if the Broncos defense wasn’t already elite, they could add another top player to their roster. Payton missed the chance to sign Myles Garrett, but he can still bring pass rusher Von Miller back to Denver.

Miller, 37, is a free agent and looking for new opportunities. Nik Bonitto would love to share the field with the future Hall of Famer.

Obviously, everybody would love that. Not only the fans but the players. [Von Miller is] a guy that’s loved here in Denver so much. My personal favorite player ever to watch. Just being able to share a room with him would be amazing.

Nik Bonitto said back in May

Miller spent last year with the Washington Commanders. He played in every game and recorded 9 sacks. But the Commanders were a dumpster fire, winning just five games.

Miller, a former first-round draft pick, has accumulated 607 combined tackles, 138.5 sacks, 117 tackles for loss, 27 forced fumbles, and 24 passes defended. Miller is a two-time Super Bowl champion (the Broncos and the Rams), a seven-time All-Pro, and an eight-time Pro Bowler.
