Brooks Koepka did not mince his words on Sunday. After he failed to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs during his return to the PGA Tour, the 5-time major champion slammed his own performance and claimed he was left disappointed.

The former World No.1 was in the field at the Wyndham Championship this week in North Carolina and was hoping to make a huge push. The FedEx Cup is the PGA Tour’s season-long competition that culminates with the FedEx Cup playoffs. The top 70 ranked golfers qualify for the playoffs while the rest are eliminated from the competition.

Koepka entered the week ranked 86th in the standings and needed a solo 4th finish or better to advance to the three-legs playoffs which will commence next week. With score of 67 and 66 in the opening 2 rounds, he kept his chances alive.

A 4-over par showing in the 3rd round on Saturday severely damaged his chances of making it through the playoffs. On Sunday, he carded an even par round to finish 3-under par and T67 for the tournament. This saw him drop even further in the FedEx Cup rankings and fail to reach the playoffs.

Following his final round, the 36-year-old unloaded on himself. He did not hold back and claimed he was pretty disappointing this season and needs to re-evaluate his game.

Yeah, pretty disappointed. I think it’s pretty pathetic that I can’t get through. Zero top-10s basically in two years. To be in the prime of your career and be as good as I think I am, I think that’s very pathetic, disappointing. Just need to go home and completely reevaluate everything.

Brooks Koepka told the reporters

Koepka made the cut in 11 of his 16 starts and recorded a top-10 finish at the Cognizant Classic (T9). In the majors, he missed the cut at the U.S. Open and finished T12 at the Masters, T55 at the PGA Championship and T28 at the Open Championship.

Despite FedEx Cup playoffs failure, Brooks Koepka was happy to be back on the PGA Tour

Brooks Koepka‘s bid to qualify for the 2026 FedEx Cup playoffs ended this past weekend following a T67 finish at the Wyndham Championship. Despite this failure, he was happy to be back on the PGA Tour.

The 9-time PGA Tour winner stunned the golf world in December last year by leaving LIV Golf. He was one of the high-profile names of the Tour that left in 2022 on a big money contract to play for the-then Public Investment Fund (PIF) backed tour.

In 4 seasons on LIV Golf, Koepka won 5 individual titles and was one of the most successful players on the breakaway circuit. At the end of last year, he sent shockwaves by leaving them.

A few weeks later he was reinstated on the PGA Tour through the Returning Member Program. As per this program, a player who had won either The Players Championship or any one of the 4 majors from 2022 and was away for 2 years could return.

He matched this criteria through his victory at the 2023 PGA Championship. That triumph saw him become the first player representing LIV Golf to win a major.

Upon his return to the PGA Tour, he admitted he had fallen back in love with golf. While he will not be playing at the playoffs next week, he is happy to be back.

Yeah, it’s been great. Honestly, I’ve loved it. I feel fantastic. The reception’s been great. Overall happiness is 10 out of 10 and just excited.

Brooks Koepka told the reporters

Koepka will now turn his attention to Europe. The golfer revealed that he would take part in a few European events before returning to play in a couple of fall events on the PGA Tour later.
