The Carolina Panthers deciding to move on from Bryce Young has caused a furor in the football world. Some say it is because he is not good enough to play at the highest level. While on the other hand, others squarely place the blame on the franchise. A lack of stability, be it on the coaching side or even with the players on the field has led to this outcome.
A fan felt the same way as he stood outside the practice field waiting for the 23-year-old quarterback to come through. When he saw him, he asked if he could sign some merchandise.
Keep your head up man, you'll do fine.As Young came over, the fan said.
This shows the mood has shifted from blaming his 0 touchdowns and three interceptions to a show of support as it is now dawning on everyone that he is facing the mistakes the ownership has made over the past few seasons.
Bryce Young had a disastrous outing in his second NFL game of this season. Not only did he not have a single touchdown to show for it, but he also threw an interception and ended the night with just 84 yards passing for a QBR of 6.5. That brought his net QBR for the season to a league worst 9.1. The Panthers felt they had seen enough and took the decision to bench him.
That decision though, came as a shock to the young quarterback. He might have felt that he was not given the chance to prove himself before they pulled the plug. As the days go by, it seems more and more to fans and analysts that he may be right to think so.
Bryce Young can still be franchise quarterback
Head Coach Dave Canales has come under the spotlight for making this Bryce Young career altering decision this early.
That's not something we are really considering. We have a great situation with our quarterbacks right now, with guys that have experience. We love where we are at, and it’s all hands on deck. When asked after today’s practice if they are looking to trade Young, Canales said.
That should give the former No. 1 overall pick some understanding of his future. Considering how owner David Tepper has been doing so far, it could have led to Young being traded to another unfavorable situation.
Canales did add that his now former starter was playing well with the scout team. If that continues and it helps to bring back the confidence in him, then it will not be long before Dave Canales starts to be confident about him again.
If a situation arises where Andy Dalton struggles or faces an injury, these reps with the scout team will keep him sharp. The Carolina Panthers need stability over anything else at the moment. If their team and their young star can find the same concurrently, this benching might turn out to be the best decision.
