Bryson DeChambeau hit back at Sir Nick Faldo and his other critics on Thursday. After an opening round score of 67 at The Open Championship, the American international took a subtle dig at the 6-time major champion, who criticized him earlier.
DeChambeau entered the field at Royal Birkdale with huge pressure on his shoulders. Having missed the cuts at the Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open, the American needed a strong start in the 154th Open.
He fired off 2 birdies to start the round and was 2-under par through the front nine. He started the back nine with another birdie on the 10th hole.
Following a bogey on the par-5 14th hole, DeChambeau made back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. He wrapped up his round with a bogey on the 18th hole, finishing 3-under par for the round.

On Tuesday, Sir Nick Faldo had some strong words regarding DeChambeau. While speaking on Sky Sports, the former World No.1 claimed that DeChambeau had “zero clue” about strategy.

While speaking with an R&A official, DeChambeau stated that he was a bit more strategic on the golf course on Thursday.
You’ve got to be a lot more strategic out on the golf course. I feel like I did a really good job today of being incredibly strategic and focused super hard on placing it in the right places.

Apart from Faldo, Brandel Chamblee also took a dig at DeChambeau on Tuesday. The golf analyst claimed that the LIV golfer went from battling Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler to trying to beat every YouTube golf content creator.
🚨🗣️😳 #NEW — Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee RIPS Bryson DeChambeau: “It’s almost like he went from chasing Scottie & Rory to chasing Grant Horvat. It’s like he wants to outdo every YouTuber in the game instead of outplay everybody in the game of golf.” pic.twitter.com/ZT3lmnqZp9

DeChambeau ended the day T4, 2 shots behind surprise leader Jackson Suber, who shot 5-under 65 in the first round. Unless something drastic happens on Friday, where he goes completely off the tracks, the Crushers GC captain will likely play over the weekend and end his run of 3 straight missed cuts.
Bryson DeChambeau has continued to decline to speak to the media
Bryson DeChambeau has been one of the talking points of golf at the moment. However, the golfer himself is not talking. Following his opening round score of 67, he continued to decline to speak to the media.

While he agreed to have a word with the R&A official on the course, he has declined to speak with any media, print or TV. According to Bob Harig, this is now the 5th consecutive major round in which he has not spoken to any assembled media.

It all started at the PGA Championship at the Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania. After missing the cut, the golfer skipped the media. While he signed autographs for the fans, he turned down the chance to appear in front of the reporters and answer some questions.

Last year, DeChambeau had a poor start to The Open Championship. He shot a high score of 78 and found himself in trouble early on. He bounced back in the second round with a round of 65 on Friday.
He went on to shoot 68 and 64 in the third and fourth rounds, respectively, and finished T10 with a 9-under par score. He will now enter the second round hoping to build on a strong start and make a push for his 3rd major title.
