Mark Wahlberg is an avid fan of the NBA. He is a longtime fan of the Boston Celtics and is often seen courtside during games. So it is not surprising that Wahlberg was stunned when the New York Knicks won the championship last season.
The Knicks fans are arguably the most passionate fans in the NBA. It had been 53 years since they last won a championship. Hence, their recent title was one of the biggest celebrations the city had ever seen.
With the 2026-27 campaign approaching, many teams have made changes to their rosters this summer. However, one team that caught everyone’s attention is the Philadelphia 76ers.
During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Mark Wahlberg made his feelings about the Knicks clear and hoped that the 76ers would stop them next season.
Whoever could beat New York, I’m rooting for you. Go Philly. Come on Sixers. Beat the Knicks. The Knicks is a seven or eight seed at best next year.

The 76ers are seen as the biggest threats to the New York Knicks after their recent acquisitions. They traded for Jaylen Brown from the Celtics in a blockbuster deal that kicked off their summer. After adding a former Finals MVP to their team, they signed LeBron James on a two-year deal.
The two acquisitions have seen them put together the most dominant team in the league on paper. The hype and excitement surrounding the team have seen many label the upcoming season as a “championship or bust” season for the 76ers.
Opening night will see the Knicks and 76ers face off against each other. While Jalen Brunson and his teammates are unfazed by the opening game, it could serve as a preview for what is to come in the playoffs.
Fans react to Mark Wahlberg making his feelings clear about the New York Knicks
The Knicks will be the team heading into the 2026-27 campaign. They went on a historic run during the playoffs last season. They went on a 13-game winning streak from Game 4 of the first round till Game 3 of the NBA Finals. During their winning streak, they clean-swept the 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round and Eastern Conference Finals, respectively.
Following Wahlberg’s comments, Knicks fans took to social media to react to them.
lol rent free instead of talking about how good the Celtics may or may not be he’s focused on how bad he wants the Knicks to be. This will age poorly when the Knicks snatch that Larry o for a second year straight FOH celtic fans 18 banners still not enough ??

Knicks fans took shots at Wahlberg and the Celtics on social media. Many of them trolled him for supporting the 76ers, as they are rivals of the team he supports.
Mark Wahlberg on the Celtics trading Jaylen Brown to the 76ers
The Celtics will be heading into the 2026-27 campaign without their star player, Jaylen Brown. The forward was drafted by the Celtics in 2016 and spent nine seasons with them. During his stint, he led the franchise to its first championship in 16 years in 2024 and was named the Eastern Conference Finals and Finals MVP.

When asked about the move, Mark Wahlberg revealed that he was left devastated after the move.
Listen, it was devastating to see. But it’s business. It is what it is.
The move caught many, including Brown, by surprise. In fact, a few months ago, he even expressed his love for the city and hoped to stay for another ten years if it was his decision to make. Unfortunately, the Celtics had other ideas as they head into the new season with a new-look roster.
It will be interesting to see how the Celtics will compete next season without Brown. Brown was their best player last season as he led them to a second-place finish in the Eastern Conference standings. His performances saw him finish sixth in the MVP race.
